We ate excellent food. We were told that the cheapest option was the 'menu du jour' which was a set menu with four courses at a price of 50 euros per person! Food was excellent and original. The staff is very friendly and passionate.

My husband and I found Segugio as we walked down Utrechtsestraat. The menu looked interesting and the interior nice so we decided to give it a try. We did not have a reservation but were immediately shown to a nice table on the 2nd floor. We ordered wine, bread was brought to the table and we each ordered the soup of the day and an entree. A bruschetta was served as an amuse bouche and it was delicious. Our soup arrived and it was a gastronomic disaster of
brown pureed beans with a nest of shredded cabbage in the center with a langostine perched on top. The flavors just did not work together and the presentation was unappealing. Priced at 17 Euro we had much higher expectations.

My entree was the fish of the day a brill which was totally bland and laid over a combination of vegetables and mushrooms. Again, the mushrooms did nothing to complement or enhance the fish. A rather odd choice in my opinion. At 30 Euro it was a real disappointment

My husband's spaghetti with calamari and seafood had more eye appeal but not particularly flavorful. Better priced, however, at 19 Euro.

We opted out of dessert as the rest of the meal was so uninspired and were surprised to see that the downstairs was totally packed. Either we chose the wrong menu items or the kitchen was having a off night judging from the other glowing reviews. But it was unquestionably the worst dinner we had of the four nights we were in Amsterdam.

Masterful cuisine combined with a superb selection of wines especially the crisp light vermentino
The lamb shank was simply the best I have ever tasted
Next time I am in Amsterdam I will certainly visit.

So we just came back home after visiting this restaurant - a group of 5.

We called late on a Monday and were lucky enough to get a table. That was really a nice touch! We came in and got a table upstairs - which was a great table (Seen some other reviews talk down the decor - it's very simple and clean cut - but not in any way does it lack personality. Neat can still be very personal and ambiant)

We got seated and waited for 5 minutes to get the menus. Decided in 1 minute to go for the chef's choice 5 courses and found a bottle of wine. Ordered sparkling water as we sat down.

They were keen on serving the wine and water - which we appreciated a lot - however the owner and his waiter were not able to accompany our speed of drinking both wine and water. So the result is that we only had a few bottles of wine, for a 5 course menu and we would have had twice that, if we could have poured ourselves - or they would have been more attentive.

The food was good - for our taste it lacked some volume - I would not at all say it was bland, but it did need salt for our taste.

With everything said, the owner is really nice - the waiter was awesome (but unexperienced - very) and the food was good.

If the service of the waiters had been slightly worse. It would be a 3-star review from me. If the waiters had been slightly better in filling glasses and keeping and eye - it was be a cleancut 5 star!

This is the fourth time I've been to this restaurant and it excels each time. It has the most knowledgable and friendliest staff in any restaurant in Amsterdam. The food is amazing - an interesting menu and the wine list is superb. It is not a cheap night, but a must, especially for a special occasion.

Thank Ben H
