We were originally going out for sushi with some friends one night. When we got there, the sushi place was so crowded and loud that we left and walked down the street. After almost giving up and going home, we saw Taverna Barcelona. I'm glad we did.
Taverna is a very cozy place with great family-style service. It’s not big at all, which adds to the character. The decor is basic and simple, yet screams Catalan all the way. There were three of us and we all ordered different things so we could sample them. I'll be honest, I don't recall everything we ordered except for some tasty authentic Catalan sausage. I also the recall the bread tasting so good. The food tasted fresh and homemade. The waiter was nice and helpful. There was another gentleman there who was possibly one of the owners, he came over and shared some of thinking behind the menu choices.
I found Taverna to be truly refreshing and authentic, compared to some of the other "upscale" and uptight places I ate at while in Amsterdam. The food and drink were both solid and I would definitely return for seconds.
One last thing, it was my turn to pay the bill and the prices for three people (including beers) was right on. No complaints.
