We had an excellent meal with plenty of choice and the waiter was very helpful in explaining the dishes to us.

Van Beeren was recommend to us by another restaurant that was closing just as 4 of us turned up for dinner at 9:30pm! So glad this happened as we had an absolutely fantastic meal in Van Beeren. The service was quick, fast and friendly and the food was brilliant. I had duck breast and it was fab , probably the best I have had! Good wine and a nice atmosphere made this a great night. Highly recommend

So this review is quite simple.

The pplace is "just" a traditional dutch Bistro. What I love most, they don't try to be something fancy, they are doing a few simple things very good. I have been there last year in April and have sent since then at least a douzen friends and colleagues to have the spare ribs and if they can the NY cheese cake. Everybody loved it.

The nexttime I go there, I should actually try something different, but you know when you found somethiing that is so good, better then everywhere else you know. Why try something different? :) Especially if you only can enjoy it rarely.

So go there, sit on the bar, have the ribs and the cake and and a few beers and you will be a happy person :D

You'd have to be a little off the beaten track to discover this little gem. But that's what we do, discovering bars the locals go to. Eetcafe Van Beeren isn't too far from Nieuwmarkt, so if you're in that part of town and you fancy a beer or a bite (or both), give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
The ambience is relaxed, with lots of traditional features - dark wood bar, brass taps, etc.. Interesting history too. It used to be a browncafe, where locals, students, squatters would drink and smoke into the small hours.
There's a good range of draught beers, and an interesting menu - I'd call the style European. Plenty of good homely dishes (ribs, steaks, casseroles, etc.).
The staff are very friendly and helpful. We found it on a busy Saturday afternoon just before Christmas, just cruising a few pubs, drinking beer. We thought it could be a good place to eat later. So we enquired. Our friendly waitress said she could fit the 5 of us in, but we may have to share a large table with other guests. She even showed us which table it would be. As it happened, she later managed to juggle the seating arrangements, so that we had our own table. A real attention to detail, that was most appreciated.
Overall, a great find; and we'll be back, next time we're in Amsterdam

Lovely, intimate restaurant. We ate very early one evening and all the tables were already reserved, so booking in advance is advisable. The food is bistro style, tasty and rustic - fine dining it isn't though. Service was very helpful and friendly. I had the ribs which were delicious, my partner had fish which wasn't that great. The main course for 10 euro before 7 I think would be great value
