On a recommendation from our hotel, The Mauro Mansion, we found what must surely be one of the very best restaurants in Amsterdam.
Even at 7pm all the tables were full with several couples waiting in the bar area; after around 30 minutes we were shown to our table and our waiter took great pains to explain the evenings menu - around 5 starters and a similar number of main courses. We much preferred this to the typical menu offering countless items, whereas everything we were offered was freshly sourced and cooked.
The atmosphere was vibrant, the food extremely good and the wine very agreeable. Despite a constant number of customers awaiting tables we were not pressured whatsoever and had a superb night out.
For a shared starter, 2 main courses, coffee and more than a bottle of wine the total bill was only €61 which we thought excellent value.
What may be perceived as a problem is that we had no idea of cost until the bill came as no prices had been advised throughout.
When we left after 9:30pm there were still customers waiting for tables which must surely be one of the ever best recommendations.
