Description: The Pantry Imagine a restaurant version of the successful TV show I Love Holland, and that is what The Pantry is like. This cosy restaurant near the Leidseplein distinguishes itself with its typically Dutch atmosphere and traditional old-Dutch dishes. Hospitality is important. The staff understands the dining and hospitality business and have worked here for years, during which the recognition of this restaurant has been ever increasing. The Dutch living room atmosphere is enhanced by the use of lampshades, Delftware and old paintings on the wall, complemented by the background music. The Pantry works exclusively with fresh, homemade products. Its location in the Leidseplein neighbourhood makes this an ideal restaurant to eat before catching a theatre show or movie. The doors open from eleven in the morning, so it's also a great place to go for lunch

This was so good, we went twice over a 4 days trip. The owners and everyone working there are very friendly and the food on offer home made and authentic. On the first night we visited, they were frantically busy so we waited until a table became vacant. We chose from the 'a la carte' menu. Do try the pea soup with smoked bacon and beef stew cooked in onions with red cabbage. The second visit, we arrived much later. I think they may have been about to close, however we were welcomed warmly. This time, we were offered the set menu option. Both of us had something called 'over bake' which was the owners grandmothers recipe. Delicious, something like a Shepherds pie but with a twist. There was cauliflower and the meat had very slight curry flavour. A bit like Babote ( from Southern Africa ) Thought the prices were very reasonable as everything was cooked fresh. When in Amsterdam, don't miss the chance to dine here. Can be reached easily by Tram No 5

Decor is quaint and homely. Waiters were extremely helpful, speedy and friendly despite every table being full. Food is fantastic, loved the goats cheese croquettes. Don't miss the dessert!

This tiny restaurant within walking distance of the Leidsplein and on a street full of restaurants stands out because of the quality of good Dutch food., We were in Amsterdam for three nights, and we ate there on night 1 (it had been recommended by a family member who is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of American in Hyde Park, NY who had been employed in the kitchen of the Amstel Hotel years ago). The second night we had an ok meal elsewhere, and we went back to The Pantry on night 3. By calling in advance and going early we were able to get the one window table for 2. The pea soup and the ham on the bone were served well and delicious. The white chocolate mousse desert was the best I have ever had (it had a crème brulee sauce).

This restaurants markets by providing hotels with its card. I might have ignored it because the concierge was referring it to everyone. But I am glad I had two great meals there.

The waiter was very welcoming from the moment we entered and kept coming to our table to explain what each course contained. Very good prices and for sure a MUST VISIT location while in Amsterdam.

On the recommendation of our hotel staff, we found the Pantry just a few short blocks from our hotel. The setting was rustic, friendly and very inviting. Our server was in tune with American visitors and explained the dishes on the menu to us. I ordered a baked dish that was very similar to a shepherd's pie and my husband ordered the sausage, herbed mashed potatoes and fresh vegetable - very good!
