Description: Pasta e Basta restaurant nearly opposite the Rijksmuseum has a name that simply doesn’t do it justice. It means ‘pasta full stop’ but really should trumpet the singing accomplishments and mad party atmosphere that the waiters and waitresses deliver. The dining room is splendid, with scarlet-covered chairs, flouncy wall sconces, dramatic drapes and fine art, while the bar area is more modern but just as operatic. The wait staff really truly can sing, everything from Billy Joel to grand opera, and they get the joint jumping. The long tables attract hens and big groups and the small cosy niches and bar are right for more intimate numbers, and it is just one fantastic evening. The menu is Italian, incorporating excellently-sourced meat, fish and veg. Anti pasti are served buffet-style from a chilled grand piano. Main courses always include eight pasta dishes like spaghetti with squid ragout, lasagne bolognaise with tapenade and sage, and penne with radicchio and goats cheese. International wine list matches the international musical programme. Groups are so welcome, and the entire venue seats 110.

The singers were great! Staff very friendly and the food was very good. I like sampling different foods and this is a great way~ their group menu.

We tried this restaurant following a recommendation from a friend. It did not disappoint (well just a tad but more about that later). Lovely friendly staff and a feeling as soon as you walk into the place that you are going to have a unique experience. The standard of singing could grace any West End theatre, and it is all done tastefully and without intrusion. So these fabulous people are waiters and waitresses and great singers....and do it all with good grace and a cheerful smile.Excellent.The buffet style starters are first class and you can go back for seconds. I didn't.... but wish I had as my main course was indeed disappointing. The pasta was lukewarm, slightly undercooked and there wasn't very much of it.Pity really as it is not cheap to dine here and this did take the edge off the evening a little. The wine is expensive but we bought the cheapest red at 26 euros and it was of a very good quality, so we weren't unhappy with the price in the end. The desserts are good but are not included in the 37 euro price. We paid a total of 110 euros, for 2, but it was for a special occasion and we had a really good evening. I would go back.....but they do need to sort out the main courses.

Returned to Pasta E Basta after 5 years and it didn't disappoint! Our waiter was David who was friendly and made us feel very welcome. The restaurant is beautifully decorated - lovely and cosy. I took my partner this time and he had no idea of the entertainment and was completely blown away by it. The only one who didnt sing was the barman but he came round all the tables and was super amusing. Oh! the food.. Buffet style all you can eat starter excellent and we both had seafood mains - although different both stunning. I will be back!

banks mansion hotel recommended this fun italian nearby, we didnt book but they squeezed us in at the bar which only enabled greater wine consumption via the hilarious bar tender. The starter was self service anti pasti of every variety @ was nearly a meal in itself served from a concert piano ! the multi talented staff played and sang a variety of show tunes and everything from opera to jazz we even got to join in ourselves. the pasta main courses were small enough but rich and the music and drinking had taken over by then ! I managed to leave some shopping behind but the staff were most helpful in retreiving the next day
