Any Amsterdammer worth his salt will brag about the delicious Indonesian food that Amsterdam serves. Kantjil & de Tiger's servings are voortreffelijk!, they'd claim - and that is what got us here.
This perpetually crowded restaurant did whet our appetites. An elaborate meal and a burnt hole in the pocket later, we pondered whether it was really worth the time, money and effort -
~Food: mediocre at best, with each individual portion of the rijsttafel ranging from being moderately decent to barely palatable. I'd recommend you try the individual dishes rather than the full course rijsttafel
~Drinks: They serve palm beer on the tap- worth a couple of em to take the edge off
~Ambiance: For those who prefer a quiet dining experience, please carry your noise cancelling headphones; for those who are compulsive eavesdroppers, you're in for a treat
~Price: pricey pricey pricey - the final nail in the coffin.
Verdict: 2.5/5 - Overrated
Disclaimer- I am a vegetarian and an Indian - my benchmarks of good vegetarian food are quite high.
