“Really nice small unpretentious Italian restaurant”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

Petite, clean, basic décor with good service (one Italian guy running the place and front of house, another doing the cooking in a small open plan kitchen).
Focus is all on flavour. Small(ish) handwritten menu which I assume changes based on ingredients.
Tuna encrusted in fennel seeds was a delicious starter.
Well recommended if you want good authentic Italian food.
The only shame is that there the Adriatic wasn’t outside the front door ;-)

“Excellent and no fuss Italian cuisine in informal setting. Bit pricy.”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

Been to Café de Curtis twice now and have not been disappointed yet. The food is very good and typically Italian, with an Italian owner and chef. The setting is very informal, as it is an old café with a small open kitchen. The food is presented in a no-nonsense way and attention is paid mostly to the flavours. Portions are generous. We enjoyed a fennel-seed crusted grilled tuna steak as a starter. As a main course I had the lamb rack in an almond crust, which was excellently prepared and original. The grilled sea bass on the other hand was a bit small, simple and a little bit on the dry side. The wines are excellent. The 30,- euro red wine on top of the list is an excellent wine and very reasonably priced. Overall Café the Curtis is a little bit on the pricy side but definitely worth it. Service can be slow at times but very friendly and pleasant indeed.

Definitely a recommendation.

“Really nice Italian food in a cozy atmosphere.”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

We joined our friend for dinner at De Curtis last week; it is one of his favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. I guess I can understand the other reviewers who said that the service was less than desired. The staff is often busy talking to other clients, etc. That said, they were very friendly and accommodating to us. And the food was very nicely prepared. I loved the small, daily menu (definitely get the buffalo mozzarella if it's on there!). And the place doesn't feel super touristy for being in such a touristy locale. De Curtis is a nice combination of Italy and Holland!

“My all time favorite Italian in Amsterdam”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

I have been coming here for many years and was here again last Friday with some friends and the food was great as always. Service very friendly and dishes authentic. I had the spinach salad with gamberi and the ravioli spinaci e ricotta and the afoggato. All dishes were good with fresh ingredients and excellent value for money. Make sure to book a table in advance, because the place is small and fills up quickly.
