Description: You can find Restaurant Blauw aan de Wal In the middle of the Red Light District of Amsterdam. Surrounded by the red lights, the swaying glances and the rich history. Through the clamour of the streets a small alley leads to an attractive courtyard with an old warehouse. This is where chef and owner Daan Olthuis and his team cook changing menu with a modest passion and inspiring seasonal products. The extensive wine list is carefully attuned to the menu.

“Way too expensive”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

Some colleagues and I ate some weeks ago in Blauw aan de Wal. I had seen some good reviews.
Unfortunately, the restaurant did not distinguish itself from the most restaurants in Amsterdam. Much pretensions and only mediocre performances. All right, we had some nice food, but nothing really special. Except the price. We had a three course menu for 59 euro. In the nearby restaurant Lastage (one Michelin star) a three course menu is 39 euro. Next to the price, I was quite dissatisfied with the wine. We got wine with each course. The wines were not special, they did not really fit with the food, and we got longwinded explanations for each wine.
So, next time I will go to Lastage. Less expensive, much more refined food and a good sommelier.

“Loved it”

Great little restaurant astride the red light district. 3 of us let the staff decide what we would eat, which included outstanding razor clams, tuna and lamb cooked with dates all of which were excellently cooked and delivered un rushed and in a laid back fashion - there is no hurry at this restaurant and your allowed to sit and enjoy. The white room almost perfectly sits as an exact opposite to melee of the streets outside. A bit pricey but very very good

“Lost their way....”
Reviewed May 23, 2014 via mobile

This used to be one of my favourite places to take visitors. Great location and cosy with simple and tasty menu. But visiting again after some time, the menu/food were poor. Strange combinations that meant it was difficult for many of us to even find something we liked. Lamb very tough and chewy, People were nice and friendly but would not go back until they improve the menu and quality of food.

“Like to eat in the Red Light District?”
Reviewed May 17, 2014

This restaurant was suggested to us by people we met for the first time in Amsterdam. And what a surprice. A little hard to find maybe because it is located in a back yard. You probably have to reserve a table because of the popularity. The menu is rather simple, you choose between two 3 or 4 course meals. The give you an explanation beforehand of the various plates. The food we got was marwellous and the service very friendly. This place is rather expensive but worth it. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
