Description: You can find Restaurant Blauw aan de Wal In the middle of the Red Light District of Amsterdam. Surrounded by the red lights, the swaying glances and the rich history. Through the clamour of the streets a small alley leads to an attractive courtyard with an old warehouse. This is where chef and owner Daan Olthuis and his team cook changing menu with a modest passion and inspiring seasonal products. The extensive wine list is carefully attuned to the menu.

Go and find it on "De Wallen" aka Red Light District, because this top-restaurant deserves good guests that can appreciate ambiance and well-prepared food.

I'm glad we ate here...we did make reservations before we left the States, although even on a Saturday night, it didn't seem very busy. I think we would have enjoyed our meal much more if we hadn't been placed in the back corner right near a large party. Also, by the end of the second course, I was extremely hot from the heat! I was so hot, I had to go downstairs to the bathroom to cool off!! We were interested in doing dessert, but our server took a while to get back to us and by the time he did (I think he was overwhelmed from being seated 5 tables in successsion), we were all too hot and just needed to leave. In all fairness, we could have been asked to be moved downstairs where it was a little cooler (and the heat built up as the patrons increased), but it seemed rude to do that before our dessert course. We drank 5 bottles of the large waters between the three of us! We all felt that the food was solid, but none of our dishes blew us away. It was nice to have a nice meal in Amsterdam, but I probably wouldn't go back again.

The food here is amazing. The service is spectacular and they are able to help you out in English if needed. The atmosphere is great as the restaurant is in an old canal house hidden in the red light district. I highly recommend treating yourself to a dinner here.

Went for dinner at this hidden gem in the Red lights on a friday after havn't been here for a couple of years. though warmly welcomed by the Host Bert, our reservation could not be found and therefore seated in the rather boring and impersonal upstairs. Quickly helped to an aperatief, an not so interesting champagne and amuse consisiting of just as boring selection of raw veggies and anchovydip. As the menu consist of two dishes per course we decided to go for one each trying it all accompagnied by some white and red from the handwritten list of approximately 15 different wines. And then the waiting begon.. 3 baskets of bread, a bottle of wine and an 1,5 hours later our starters finally arrived. A steak tartar of lamb and a white fish carpaccio. An hour after that our mains an entrecote and a sea bass on a bed of lentils ending it with 2 dessert so interesting we forgot what it was... all was served without hardly any explanation though the servant did excuse himself at some point as we were laughing so hard about the lack of service, explaining he had only worked there for 5 days. A rather extensive bill and very warm farewell by the ever so funny and friendly Bert we left this mediocre heaven right back into the fun hassle of the Red lights.. sadly don't think we will return anytime soon..
