“Our home away from home in Amsterdam”
Reviewed June 1, 2008

My thirteen year old niece and I have just returned from a three night stay at Aloft (apartment 1) and are now in the process of saving up for our return visit! Our stay was quite simply fantastic. How wonderful it was to wake in the morning and sit looking out at the most beautiful canal view and watch the world go by. Our studio apartment had everything we required and the local area had a supermarket two minutes away and lots of wonderful bars and restaurants to choose from. Our hosts Jojo and Marten were very friendly and helpful, they live in the same building and although they are very non intrusive, if they are around they are always there to answer any questions.

If you decide to choose to stay here, we know you won't be disappointed - have a wonderful time!

This is an outstanding place to experience Amsterdam. I stayed while in Amsterdam on business. It was great to stay in an actual canal home and not an antiseptic hotel room.

You have a great view of one of the main canals and are very close to transit, cafes, ATM machine, and a grocery store.

The owners were very helpful and went out of their way to accomodate my needs.

I visited in business, but it would be great for a couple.

The web site accurately reflects the accomodations.

The location of the flat is perfect for walking and sightseeing. It is very quiet yet turn the corner and you are literally four minutes from Dam Square (Three from the Irish Bar which has live football and good food)
The flat itself is perfect for two people and is of of a very high standard .The view over the canal from the three large windows is the icing on the cake. I have just rebooked for next year.
Marten and Jojo are excellent hosts and you rarely see them unless you need to ask something. The flat itself is immaculately clean which is a big selling point for Anne and I. We went for a week in Feb and it was great walking weather. It was a joy to return to the flat after a walk as it was cosy and warm. All in all it is excellent value for money especially compared to hotels. If you got this accommodation in a hotel you wouldn't believe your luck.
PS If you do visit I would recommend the evening supper boat tour. My wife and I thought it was excellent.

We have been to Amsterdam many times over the years & our stay at Marten & JoJo's Aloft Apartment was by far the BEST ! We will now consider it our home away from home.
Everything was perfect - the apartment, the design, the view, the location... and of course the hosts !
We were celebrating our anniversary & birthday & there were even flowers in our room upon our arrival. The week we spent there was fabulous. We felt as though we lived there, as opposed to staying in a typical hotel or B & B.
Continued success & much luck to Marten & JoJo.

My wife and I traveled to Amsterdam the week of December 5th, 2007 and we had made arrangements to stay with Marteen and Jo Jo, the host's, in Aloft Apartment 2 and boy did we make the right choice. We were met at the door by Marteen and we were welcomed with a friendly Dutch smile and warm canal home feel. We climbed the old fashioned Dutch staircase right to the top and entered Aloft Apartment 2, and how cozy, smart, clean, and fresh it was. Everything you would ever need to feel right at home in Amsterdam. Beautiful view of the Singel Canal on a quiet corner but with enough people watching to keep you busy for hours.

Marteen made sure we were all seattled in and gave us a short history lesson on how he and Jo Jo had to obtain the house from a slew of other buyers and how they gutted and redid the entire place and it showed. The wood work, modern lighting, great bathroom, smart kitchen, and comfy loft bed all showed how much love had been put into this place. You are so close to everything Dam Square, the floating market, 9 streets, Anne Frank House, Coffee Shops, Pubs, Resturaunts, museums, red light, and more. We found them on VRBO [--]

We couldn't have picked a better place. Completely private and no disturbances what so ever. And of course our gracious host was available if we needed but we were all set to go. Feel free to email me if you need a referral or questions about the accomidations but 5 star all the way, this beats any hotel experience if you are looking for concierge, room service, and obnoxious tourist this is not for you... but if you are looking to live like a real A'damer than this place is perfect grocery store with a great wine shop right around the corner, pick up some nice cheese and wine and a baget to complete your day of touring around.... We did!!! You can't get any better...

During my last trip to Amsterdam, I stayed in both Aloft apartments and probably will never stay at the NH/Swissotel/Golden Tulip again! The apartments are very well appointed, with everything you might need, in a comfortable, tastefully decorated space, complete with real plants! Many amenities (groceries, cafes, restaurants, laundry, bicycles) are close by, and everything else you might need is within a modest walk. All of this at a price that is much less than most hotels in the city. I truly look forward to my next stay in Amsterdam at the Aloft apartments!
