“Do not stay here”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

Location is the only value. Room was dirty even after it had just been cleaned. Walls had unidentifiable stuff spread all over. Mattresses kept sliding off their base and were covered with plastic for an extremely loud and uncomfortable sleep. Website states "smoking premises" but if you smoked in the room the smoke detectors alarm quite loudly. No one at the front desk informs you of the smoke detector. Shower had hot water and nice pressure but there was no curtain and no drain in the bathroom creating puddles that remained for the entire stay. If you had to use the toilet you had to be wearing shoes which is extremely inconvenient during the night. Heat barely worked and it was freezing.

Great location. Expensive for the amount of space in rooms and lack of cleanliness. Sleeping is uncomfortable because of the plastic wrapping over the mattress that is not removed, and the constant train and car traffic at all hours. Would not go back.

arrived in the afternoon, the weather was nice, so our guard was down a bit. upon arriving at this disgusting excuse for a hotel, we noticed there is no reception. we had to wait in a kebab shop to get the keys, which were handed to us after forking out €270 for a 3 night stay. (in hindsight, it would have been a better option to commit a petty crime so we could have spent the 3 nights in a jail - which would have been ACTUALLY better than this place).

we were told that room 25 was on the 2nd floor, so up we went to find the room. After passing the 1st floor which STANK of urine and other smells that i had never even smelled before, we got to the 2nd floor, and couldnt find the room. we went passed 21-24 but no sign of room 25. we walked around the floor a bit, as he had said it was on that floor. we ended up discovering a stairwell at the back of the main corridor, but it was not the room, only a stairwell covered in dust about two inches thick on each step. Ironically, there was a HUGE cleaning trolley at the bottom of these stairs, which had not been used ONCE in the whole 4 days of being there. the cleaner did a fantastic job of pretending to do any work, and made sure she was heard early in the morning so people will think she is cleaning. she wasnt pleasant to deal with either.

anyway, eventually, we found the "room". ROOM 25. it was located in all i could describe as a side corridor about half the width of the normal corridors (so if you are of even a slightly larger carriage, you will NOT fit in this room!

The lights didnt work. so we had to use our mobile phones to light our way through the room. there was no "way" to light though, as the room was so small that you couldnt even see any floor. it was more like a store room that they use to put old furniture into and only rent it out when its a busy weekend. there was only ONE single bulb (about 30watts) over a mirror of a broken sink in the corner. the walls were stained with all sorts, the beds were disgusting (even though they were new mattresses - obviously from reading previous reviews i gathered that they had been replaced because of an outbreak of bed bugs). there was plastic covers on the mattresses underneath the bedclothes. it was horrendous. the noise was unbearable, even if you were to beathe heavily the noise of the plastic would have woken you.

the sink was right beside the ONLY plug socket in the whole room, which meant you couldnt use the sink, as the plug was hanging off the wall, and the sink was broken, so when you use the tap, the water sprayed into the plug. the tv was rubbish - the channels were blurry, and it was WAY too big for a room of that size. literally, the room was only about 4 or 5 metres sq.

the smell that came from the pit outside the window was abnormal also. it was the vents from the back of the reception/kebab shop/chipper and they waft up to you - even in the cold october air. i can only imagine how REVOLTING this hotel room is in the heat of the summer.

the hotel had FALSELY advertised that the rooms have private bathrooms. they do not - you are better to stay in a hostel with shared bathroom. Dont even think for a second that you have your own amenities in this kip. you will NOT. it is horrific.

the toilet was grotesque. the shower was un-usable, and there was a hand towel to use if you had a shower to dry yourself with. there was no storage for clothes, or ANYTHING. the only storage provided in room 25 was a TINY glass trophy case, which, when we tried to open the door of it, it came tumbling to the ground dangerously.

i have stayed in really horrific places in my time travelling, in thailand i stayed in a beetle and spider infested hut for €6 per night, and even that was not half as bad as this place.

i know it's location will probably trick some of you into staying here, but it's actually another hindrance, as you wish to spend as much time as possible OUT of the hotel, everything is convieniently right beside you, so you end up spending obscene amounts of money just so you dont have to go back to the hovel.

this place is definitely not suitable for humans and in all honesty, i'm pretty confident that a prison cell would have been nicer. here's a few key words to remember about this place:

- Filthy
- overpriced
- unsafe
-smelly
-tiring
-anger inducing
-claustrophobic
-mouldy

the pictures on it's website are FAKE PICTURES. this is NOT the same as what you get when you arrive.

even after writing this review, some of you will still choose to stay here, as i did, but believe me - DONT. it will ruin your holiday in amsterdam, and you will come home broke with no money from the rip off prices in the locality aswell. (as it is situated near centraal station)

amsterdam is a great city, but this hotel has made it become a place i will be reluctant to visit again for quite some time.

i wouldnt let a dog sleep here.

the place should be shut down immediately. it's disgusting.

i could go on and on and on about it for weeks, as i am only now starting to realise the true horrors of it.

i suppose, the only thing going for it though, was that it's coming up to Halloween, so it was quite fitting to stay in the most disturbing room in a haunted (looking) house.

even if it was haunted, and a horrifying ghost showed up to scare you, it would be a nice reprieve from the HARSH reality of the room that surrounds.

dont stay here, the room will engulf you and you WILL GO MAD before you leave.

dont do it to yourself, and just get a hostel instead.
you might end up swivelling in a rocking chair in a mad house for the rest of your days if you stay more than even one night.

ATROCIOUS.

SHUT IT DOWN - NOW.

I stayed at this hotel with two cousin. We were given a room for 3 people which we payed £133 each for 3 night, when we walked in there was graffiti On tables the window did not lOck neither the toilet. We then started looking around the rooUm and we noticed the covers in the wardrobe where very dusty and the other by the kitchen window was smashed. We went to complain and was giving an alternative room which did have a nice view from the window but that's pretty much all I can say because the floor hadn't been swept and the toilets were not cleaned to a good standard whatsoever.
