Stumbled on Roopram Roti after exiting the Tropenmuseum. You can see it from the Eerste van Swindenstraat tram stop. And judging from the lines of locals of various ethnicity, this is a popular place.
It's said to be a branch of a popular fastfood chain based in Suriname, offering chicken, lamb, vegetable and duck curry over rice, roti platter or on a roti roll.
I had a chicken roti roll and it was really good. Stuffed like a burrito, inside are generous helpings of green, spice and the chicken. The roll itself is worth it, considering it's just 5.50 euros.
The duck and lamb roti roll options are a little more expensive, but not that much (around 6 to 8 euros). The rice toppings and roti platters can go as much as 12 euros.
Most customers get their food for takeaway. But if you want to dine there, there are a few diner-like tables.
Service is fast and the food made to order (pay first, show the receipt, wait and enjoy) so it's really fresh, not microwaved or reheated. Will definitely come back again for the duck roti roll.
