I stayed here for 2 nights. I found a used condom under the bed on the first day. Also when we checked in we were given a key and that was that, we had to find our own rooms and the facilities. On the second morning there was drilling and building work going on in the hotel. We were never advised of the building work going on until we got there and there was a poster on the wall, if I had of known I would not have booked this hotel

The staff were friendly, very good central location only 5min walk from Centraal station. The room was clean but basic, breakfast was good, and overall really good value compared to other hotels. Round the corner is a fab Belgian bier bar - Café Belgique, and there's a McDonald's and Burger King at Dam Square if you're on a budget. If you like culture, there's plenty on the doorstep of this hotel.

We traveled as two couples

1) we were on 3rd floor , narrow stairs and no lift , but because the window was single glazed and even closed had gaps round it , you could hear people even speaking quietly in the street as if they were in your room , also noise from trams was annoying , sleep poor

2) room - bedding clean and bed comfortable , walls very dusty , bracket for old tv still on wall despite new flat screen tv on dresser. wardrobe consisted of 2 hooks on the wall - I think they must have converted the old wardrobe into the shower room which just had a shower and toilet in , and the basin was in the bedroom. No bedside light and the ceiling light was a bare low energy bulb with no shade on it . Stains on the carpet. The soap holder in the shower must have broken off and not been replaced as the bracket was there but not the dish. Grouting in the shower needed bleaching as it was mouldy

3) Staff - very friendly and we could securely store our bag after we had checked out , we didn't leave till 6pm.

4) Bar/restaurant - bar had outside canopy with heaters under so we could sit outside in the evening. Restaurant we had breakfast in which was slice of cheese , slice of ham , packet of spreading cheese , butter , jam , 2 slices of bread , boiled egg , orange juice and tea or coffee ( coffee was small so I had tea the second day)

5) Location -= on the corner of a main road and a sort of pedestrian road ( cycles and motor scooters drove up it ) trams a bit noisy as they ring a bell quite often here , but right in the centre so good for the sights , as someone else said it is nowhere near the red light district which is a good few streets away.

Overall - despite the above negatives it was OK-ish for 2 nights , my wife did say had we paid yet and could we move the first day , but they take full payment when you arrive . If it is much cheaper than other places when you are going and you don't want to pay more then you might find it acceptable. It is a shame about the rooms as location and staff are very good.

Would I stay there again - No , as the trams are so regular and run till early in the morning I would stay where I could get a better nights sleep and hopefully better price/quality , I thought it was expensive particularly for what we got , I realize that other hotels nearby were often dearer but if out of the centre you may get a better hotel for a better price

Room Tip: I believe they are refurbishing some rooms if so it may be worth enquiring about these rooms

This hotel is a the very heart of Amsterdam. The exact center of all of the city life. A five minute walk from Centraal Station and tram stops for multiple lines at your doorstep. The rooms are over a bar and you make your entrance through the main bar area. I was one floor up and didn't hear any loud sounds at all. You will hear people walking outside more than bar noise but I had my window open. The staff are all very friendly as most of the local Dutch business people. They own the restaurant next door and you get a 10% discount. I have stayed here several times.

Room Tip: The rooms are all basic but the streetside rooms give you a nice view of what's going on down on the street.
