Got placed here after our hotel choice was over booked. Had the room at the bowels of the building, All that we could see was an extract pipe from the window of a chippy (front of hotel) that was broken so the room smelt of rancid cooking oil 24/7. No wardrobe. The room was very basic and appeared clean though. Very very expensive for what we got, just a room for the night at nearly 90 euros. Wouldn't recommend this place. Staff were pleasant never the less and very helpful.
I like this hotel very much! it's very nice to stay here! good location, friendly staff.
Great location. Usual steep stairs but most in amsterdam are like this. Stayed in a few diferant places in amsterdam but will be using here again.
Stayed here for 3 nights, location is great (2 mins walk to red light district, dam square, 5 mins walk from centraal station) room was very dark and basic, window ledge was rusty and dirty, got put on the 3rd floor and the stairs were INCREDIBLY steep (not suitable for families or disabled) rooms cleaned everyday which was a plus, bathroom was quite clean but not great, very noisy location so didn't sleep well at night, asked for a double bed but got two singles, the hotel 'pre authroised' my debit card for £130 without telling me which I wasn't very impressed with at all.
This hotel is ok for a couple who want somewhere central, not too bothered about a nice hotel room and don't mind very VERY steep stairs! Would only stay here again if the price was halfed as feel we totally overpaid (£339 for 3 nights)
Me and a group of friends arrived at the Damrak in December for a weekend break.
The location of this hotel is absolute perfect its 2 minutes from local cafes , food restraunts and around 5 minute walk from the train station.
The hotel its self has been modernised but to a budget, could be a fantastic hotel if updated properly ; The rooms are ideal if your travelling in a large group.
The beds however I did get bed bugs i woke up with 3 flea-like bites around my body this was really off putting. Also one day the Chinese receiptionst bombareded into our room saying that someone was smoking and demanded a €200 fine . None of us actually where smoking in the room (although there was a pre-rolled still in the packet on one of the tables) so we denied it she says she was going to phone the Dutch Authorities to get us removed from the hotel as we refused to pay the fine ; she left our room and nothing was said in the remainder of our trip. But all in all you should be be out and about in Amsterdam its a wonderful place to visit and this hotel is in the best location possible.
