For this review I am posting a copy of the complaint I sent to Netherlands B&B...
We arrived in Delft on 26th July. Our plan was to spend 4 nights in Delft and 2 nights in Leiden before moving to find a last minute hotel in Amsterdam for the last 3 nights of our holiday. We had already booked Anne's Ding in Delft and The Oudrigne in Leiderdorp before we left England.
We were very impressed by Anne's Ding and have left a fantastic review of this place on your site.
The standard of B&B was so good we decided to book another B&B near Amsterdam. The cost was not important - we wanted a very high standard of accomodation and a pleasant host. Accordingly we chose a 4 tulip home and sent an email to book for 3 nights.
The place we chose was B&B Logeren aan de Amstel.
I received a phone call on Saturday to say she had returned from holiday and did not plan to take guests but that as she had a room we could reserve. The website states that it is possible to arrive at 15.00 but she told us not to arrive before 16.00.
On arrival the host - Paulette - showed us the accomodation. Unlike the other 2 places she did not welcome us with a cup of coffee and a cake.
Initially we were surprised that it was so dark and dingy but as she showed us around we were polite and said 'lovely'as she described and instructed us on the various features. The host took the money for the 3 days plus 6 euro tax for each day. She also took 50 euro deposit in case we ate the snacks from the drawer.
When she left us alone we looked around more closely and were very unhappy.
The TV didn't work, the internet didn't work. The electricity was faulty - the lights got too hot and went off - then without warning they recovered and came on again.
The decor was tired and the whole place needs to be redecorated. Some paint was worn off and it looked very scruffy. It was quite dirty with dead flies and dirt on windowsills.
The furniture and resources were not modern and some of the contents were in worse condition than some of my belongings that I have given to charity shops. In fact the cutlery and utensils were just fit for the bin.
The bathroom was at the top of a very steep and narrow spiral staircase and I did not feel confident coming down it.
The bathroom conaitned the hosts laundry machines and facilities for guests making tea and coffee and a microwave to prepare food. The sink for washing was a kitchen sink with a brush for washing dishes and washing up liquid.Snack food was kept in a drawer in this area. The toilet was simply behind a flimsy glass door and in my opinion the whole set up was unacceptable in terms of hygene.
We had a discussion and decided we could not bear to stay there for 3 nights. We still had not been there for an hour. Although it was very difficult for us we went to her house and told her that we would leave the next morning. She was not at all happy and asked us why. We did not want to hurt her feelings so we said it was too far from Amsterdam. Paullette was quite cross and said she could have let it to other guests and would have to be compensated. It was terrible to have such a reaction. She said she would talk to us in the morning.
The following moring she brought a very basic breakfast and told us to make our own coffee. She then said that because we were not satisfied with the location we would have to lose our money. We then told her the real reasons why we were leaving and she said she was shocked all her other guests loved it.
I said that was their opinion but we were not satisfied and wanted our money back because the standard of accomodation was poor and the 4 tulips were misleading. Paulette told me the 4 tulips were awarded by yourselves following an inspection visit. I am amazed because in no way did it compare to the other places we stayed. Places you can be proud to include in your booklet.
Eventually she gave us our deposit plus a refund of 150 Euros. She should have refunded 200 Euros. The money is not so important to us. If you can retreive 50 euro I am happy to donate it to a children's charity of your choice.
However the most important thing is that you should visit this place and make a true judgement so that other people do not get a bad impression of B&B in Holland.
I would be happy to put a review on your site. I have done so for the first 2 places we stayed.
I have taken many photographs as evidence of the low standards and if you wish I will send you them from my home computer when I arrive there on Friday
