“Slept in a shoe box...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

Visited this hotel for a two night stay whilst in Amsterdam for an Ajax match. On arrival, the reception staff were extremely helpful and polite. We arrived very early so they stored our luggage and gave directions to the city centre. How anyone can say this hotel is well situated, I'll never know! Yes, it's close to some bars and restaurants although if you want to visit the city centre or the old town, then you're in for at least a 20 minute walk. When we checked in a little later, we were given a room on the 4th floor (406). Having stayed in countless hotels in various cities, this room easily wins the prize for the smallest room ever. It really was tiny with barely enough room to store your slippers, let alone two suit cases. However, it was clean and quiet. We never tried the breakfast, although I do know it was 7.50 Euros. There are a few cafes / bars nearby which serve an excellent breakfast for between 7 and 9 Euros. Even though the hotel was comfortable, clean and quiet, if I ever return to Amsterdam I would certainly choose a hotel nearer to the City centre. My feet couldn't bear the walking...

Room Tip: If you get room 406, refuse it or store your luggage somewhere else.

Went to Amsterdam for a long weekend a few weeks ago, and stayed at Best Western in Leidse Square. On the edge of Vondelpark and within walking distance to Rijksmuseum, Het Concertgebouw (one of the greatest concert halls in the world), and in a quiet neigbourhood. Single room was clean and tidy but bed was too soft for my liking and the size was soooo tiny - and no door between the shower area and bedroom. Unless you go there during cooler times I don't know what it'll be like during the hotter season (haven't had a chance to test the aircon). Shame as it was alright - maybe if I looked for double size room next time. Otherwise, nothing to complain.

Room Tip: Do not go for single room - WAY too small. For a little extra you better find bigger room, or look e...

Our first room was on the third floor. Slanted ceilings made the room feel 2mX2m. We requested another room and was given a large room on the first floor...much better. I found the rooms quiet, except for late returning rowdy guests but they were quick.
Location is excellent as the hotel is adjacent to Vondelpark, five minute walk from HardRock and other bars, and 10 minute walk from the museums. As others stated it is difficult to find becuase it is behind the Marriott. The local landmark is the Q-Park garage.
Breakfast was typical European. Nothing fancy. If not included with the room I would prefer breakfast at a local cafe.

Room Tip: Avoid the third floor!

The hotel was off the main road which was good, but still rather noisy at night. It is a good location if you want to be near to the museums (Van Gogh, Riiksmuseum). There was not a lot of extra space in the room but it was very clean. One nice benefit of this hotel was that it's on a bus route to the airport (I think it was route #197). The bus stop is about 1 block (on the canal); the fare was around 4 euros and the trip takes about 40 minutes. This was much preferable to taking a tram to the train station and then taking a train to the airport. Also, the buses run about every 1/2 hour or so.

Room Tip: Try to get a room not near the stairs (you hear a lot of noise from people going up and down the sta...

My family and I have just spent three nights at this hotel and had a lovely stay. The staff were friendly, the room was a good size and well equiped and the hotel location was superb, close to the museums, parks and the Concertbouw but easily walkable or "tramable" to Amsterdam city centre. I thought it offered good value for money and it will be my preferred choice for the next time we are in Amsterdam (a beautiful city if you have yet to go).

By the way the breakfast buffet was very good and well worth the seven euros.

Room Tip: We had a family room with a double bed and a single bed for our ten year old daughter on the ground...
