The location could'nt be better: fall out of Central Station and the Old Nickel is just 300 m away.
The pub / hotel is a conversion of two old canal-side buildings with protected status
A few observations:

Spotlessly clean throughout.
Rooms small and basic; accessed via the ubiquitous steep Amsterdam stairways.
Omelette style breakfast with plenty of tea/ coffee is quite adequate.
Staff more than friendly and helpful.
Bar stocked with 60 plus beers and knowledgeable bartender.

I enjoyed my 5 day stay and found proximity to (excellent) public transport facilities enabled me to get pretty much anywhere, quickly.
If you're seeking a central 'budget' option, this is a dead safe bet.
Recommended!

Room Tip: The hotel has an annexe 50 metres down the street. I'd recommend asking for a room in the main b...

Very hard to find as pub is on small street and the room are located in 3 different buildings.
We arrived during the Mardi Gras festival and had some trouble first night when a fellow guests broke into our room and stole our belongings. This was no fault of the hotel and they were very quick to help us, on such a busy and crazy night for them.
We were moved to a different room and were made to feel safe for rest of stay. The rooms were small but did their job in just being a place to sleep each night.
The pub is small but nice and cosy to hang out for a beer in afternoon.
The location is the main selling point as you can walk to everywhere in 5 minutes.
Enjoyed our stay..

Room Tip: ensuite rooms..

Although cheap the room was very small. We were warm, beds were comfortable but ought to have mattress covers and quilts that fitted. Some sort of bedside table would be good.Holes in the curtains and lack of coat hangers need to be addressed. Great shower, floor to lavatory also needs attention. Noise from street to be expected and did not bother us too much. Overall - it is cheap but needs redecorating and a general spruce up.
Nice bar staff.
The biggest disappointment was the breakfast, which was disgusting. Apart from no choice, what we were given was almost inedible and we went elsewhere for breakfast the following day. There is no excuse for serving such poor food.
We were only staying at the hotel for 2 nights, understandably not suiting everybody we liked it's centrality and were not too put off by noise at night.

I was just spending a couple of days in Amsterdam after another trip and found this hotel on the net. It is in one of the old Amsterdam buildings. The rooms are small the beds are not the softest but the location and the price were incredible. They also have a standard English breakfast in the morning and a goodie in the evening.

Just to let you know did not have a tv and the bathrooms are down the hallway. And the stairs up to the rooms are steep, almost vertical.

But if want to experience Amsterdam with a room that is authentic and not the cookie cutter hotels you see everywhere else, this is the place for you. 1-2 minute walk from central station and the central GVB trains, I was in town for three days never had to take a cab nowhere and the trip back to the airport to 25 minutes from the hotel to the airport.
