1) the street is so small that you can't find it on the city map.... they need to indicate how to go to the hotel, no just say it's 5 minutes from the station (which is true)
2) the room on the street is terribly noisy, as the isolation is poor
3) the room is.... very very very small
4) the manager is fine and very helpful
5) the beer in the bar is good
6) the price is low

Stayed 9 nights in October 2012. Review is entirely based on my prior research and stay experience. Starting as follows:

Location: One word - Central. If you looking to be situated in the center of everything (i.e. Centraal station, Dam Sq etc.), yet require a quiet and peaceful lodging during night, I recommend this place.

Design: One words – Comfortable! The Bar is the lobby of the hotel. The interior of the bar gives you a taste of the old Dutch brown house experience. Cozy and warm, yet happening (on weekend nights). The bar also has live music nights (which are not loud enough to disturb your sleep). Interior of the rooms are not very (4-5 star) fancy but serves the purpose of crashing in at night after a long day out. Heads-up - Don't expect rooms to be styled to 3-4-5-Star quality interior finishing. Rooms are decent European sized and have a TV, clean functioning sink and heating as well as a cupboard. No rats:D(if you’re concerned)!

Shared Bathrooms: One word – Clean! Bathrooms are separate for shower and toilet so no mess there. One toilet and one shower room for each floor. Bathrooms are always clean and neat. Never found them busy during my stay. Toilet room size is decent a little bigger than the ones on the plane.

Roomrate: No comments on it. This aspect is subjective and this website assists you to compare all options as per your budget.

Staff: V.V.V Friendly. My experience with the staff in the evening shift was the best. Peter and Albert work in the evenings and they are very friendly folks. They make you feel at home and help you with anything you want. Peter is a fun and humble guy and has the best song collection playing in the bar.

Breakfast quality: Breakfast is served with choice of coffee or tea and a simple egg omelet with bacon along with jam and butter. Decent size enough to get you through till lunch.

Security: I found a very comforting aspect of security at this hotel. They don't let strangers in the accommodation area.

Downstairs is a great old fashioned bar, mahogany walls, and random tat on the walks and shelves, great pub, the location of the bar is ideal for the red light district if thats the mature of your visit, but that means you'll be paying Red Light Pint Prices, stick to the bottles good choice and better value.
The hotel felt more like an ill positioned window for the lady of the night. Our party took up a number of rooms and every one was packed wall to wall with beds, no luxury, which would be fine if you were paying hostel prices, we weren't .
Final note, bar closes at 4am, which means hotel closes at 4am, if you have a friend who likes to go for a walk (window shopping) or your a nightclub goer not the best place you.

Very good value for the location! The check in was easy and the people friendly and accomodating. We spent one night here in transit and it was excellent to do some quick exploring of the red light district and Dam Square at night. Bar under the hotel is great, we could even get Kriek there! Comfy rooms and very clean. Shared bathroom and shower on each floor. Both were clean. Would recommend and stay again.
