We didn't have a problem getting here at all. It is a little out of the way (20 minute walk to Leidseplein, 40 minutes to Dam Square if you don't want to catch the trams) but I didn't mind that at all. It was a very short walk away from Museumplein with a nice park and a few museums but there isn't any kind of nightlife in that area.
We were greeted by a crowd of people smoking outside of the front door (I'm not particularly bothered by this but it didn't look too great) and the guy at the desk was absolutely lovely. He explained where our room was and to see him if we had any problems. We took the lift up to the 3rd floor (it's only big enough for two people but a lift in Amsterdam is a rare thing anyway so no complaints), went through some saloon style doors that were incredibly loud and opened our door.
The room was like nothing I've ever seen before. There was absolutely no floor space, it was just a bed filling up almost the entire room. The two of us could not stand up at the same time (no exaggeration). There was a small TV at the bottom of the bed and a mirror on the wall. We had to stack our cases on top of each other in the corner and had nowhere to hang anything up. Everything stayed in our cases. This really ruined it for us.
We'd also requested a twin room but was given two very small single beds pushed together. There was one pillow each that might as well have not even been there. We didn't even bother bringing this up as we were worried about what the other room would be like.
The bathroom was lovely and I couldn't fault it one bit. The hairdryer didn't work but we had our own and it was all very clean. The only problem was that the door was right next to the bed so there was not really any privacy and it was all very loud.
All throughout the night (I mean going through until 5am), there was constant banging of those saloon style doors and whatever else was going on. The noise really did not stop and we didn't sleep very well at all. This didn't really help when you're squished up in and uncomfortable as it is.
We also had to leave our key card with reception every time we left the hostel. We both found this quite strange and although I'm sure there's a reasonable explaination for it, we felt quite uncomfortable doing this.
We never went for breakfast as we were trying to catch up on sleep so I can't comment on how good or bad it was.
From previous experience of staying in private hostel rooms, I expected a LOT more for £30 each a night. We really felt as though this ruined our trip. Having to get ready separately, not being able to get in to our suitcases, having very little privacy and not getting much sleep. I really cannot stress enough how tiny the room was.
In all, this ruined our holiday and I feel it is completely unacceptable to expect people to stay in a room like that when you can pay the same price in other hostels around Amsterdam and get so, so much more (drawing from experience). We would not reccommend this place to anybody.
