“No Soul !”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2014

When I booked this hotel I was sold by the "Art". Yes there is Art but its like people who own a surf board and say they surf but never have ...... its an illusion.

This is a business hotel for back slapping business men talking on their business phones and eating their business food, this is not a chilled, relaxed, liberal hotel and has no character whatsoever.

Although I must say the staff were very nice it felt like they were used to being treated like dirt from customers and seemed scared when you approached them with a smile on your face...... a bit like Edward Scissor hands smiling.

We stayed for 4 nights, we changed rooms after the first night due to what can only be described as the sound of a boiler or huge tank of bubbling water coming through the walls. Id be amazed if they aren't aware of this, to be fair the lady changed us without hassle but i couldn't help noticing that all the people around the front desk were complaining about different issues they were having. Mainly a screaming couple or should I say woman who was being heard all over the hotel the night before which of course is not the hotels fault.

Don't get me wrong this place served a purpose but I wish I had stayed somewhere else, just not what me and my girlfriend were looking for at all aside from a bed, shower, bit of Breakfast and privacy.

Room Tip: we had our problems in Room 117.

The hotel is fab! We stayed 5 friends for 3 nights, £89 each with breakfast included! Really clean, comfortable and modern. It has really comfy beds (including the extra bed in the triple room) and lovely bathrooms (we were in the 4 star side). It was great value for money, I stayed at a hotel of similar price range in Amsterdam before and it was not a touch on this. I only wish I had found this before
The rooms have a light airy feel to them and all the mod cons you need.
The breakfast buffet was constantly restocked and had a good variety to suit everyone's taste.
The staff were very helpful and polite.
There is a bus stop right outside which takes you to the centre in less than 10 mins and it runs 24 hrs! The bus comes every 10 mins so you don't even need to wait long. We did not need to get any taxis. This is a much better option than staying in a grotty hotel in the centre for twice the price!

I highly recommend! Booked through trivago as best rates.

Room Tip: The 3 star were the same price as the 4 star when we booked so shop around.

Very nice and friendly hotel and also the staff. Good access to city centre and public transports (that run all night) and tickets can be bought at the reception
Clean, modern, calm and good value for money.
A bit expensive breakfast considering the options nearby...

I thought a lot about things I didn't like in WestCord Art. But everything was really good.
Rooms equiped with new furniture. Cleaning was every day. Staff was very helpful.
At reception you can buy bus tickets, rent bike, send poscards and ask any question.
Breakfast is rather expensive at hotel, but there are some cafes in 5 minutes walk.

I did some research and this one came up tops.
It is 10 minutes from the centre, which is far enough to get away from the crowds and noise.
If you are coming from the air port it is really simpe, get the train to the centre, then the 48 bus stops right out side of the hotel, 2 stops after the albert heinj shop.

The hotel.
We stayed in the 3 star hotel, the room was nice, big and clean. The bed was comfy and the Van gough on the wall was nice to look at. There was a tv, a mini bar though it is an automatic one where if you take something out you will be charged. The safe if easy to use and free. And we also got tea and coffee in the room.
The downside was there wasn't a lot of light in the room.

We had breakfast included in the room price, it had a cooked english breakfast, fruit, cheese, meat, cereal, eggs, toast etc.

As it was my birthday i was given 2 free glasses of wine and balloons on my bed.
We were also given a 2nd free drink voucher, but be aware this is a hotel bar, we had 2 coke and Bacardi rums and it cost €15.

I would recommend this hotel.

The hotel is located about a ten minute cab from Amsterdam Central. We didn't struggle to get too and from the hotel.

The rooms are a decent size with an ok bathroom. I didn't like the metal sink as it looked like something out of a prison. The room was clean.

The reception staff are quite helpful but the breakfast staff not so much. For some reason they just didn't want to replace items which were running or had run out and we had to ask on both days for them to do so. If you are charging 18 euros this shouldn't be the case and the food it's self was average.

The Westcord Art 4* Spaarndammerdijk 304, is a great hotel! We stayed there on a bargain 3 night Easyjet City Break package in January. At more popular times in the year it might be advisable to compare prices for booking flights and hotel separately, using sites such as Trivago to find the cheapest deals for the hotel. I would strongly recommend booking a deal that includes breakfasts, as they cost 18 euros each if not already included.
It is confusing that the Westcord Art 3* and the Westcord Art 4* are on the same site and share the same Reception, Breakfast Restaurant, Bar etc. The only difference is that the rooms in the 4* section are larger and more comfortable – and therefore slightly more expensive.
Our room in the 4* wing, described as a ‘standard double’, was very spacious. It had a very large double bed (although with separate mattresses and duvets); a spacious bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle, a large washbasin with lots of surface area, a hairdryer and complimentary toiletries; a separate wc; a sofa in the window area; a large desk/dressing table with plenty of drawer space underneath, as well as a hospitality tray, and a mini-bar; adequate wardrobe space; a cable tv; loads of mirrors, and a free safe.
The only thing we felt was lacking was a hand-basin, or at least a hand-wash dispenser, in the wc. The glass walls of the bathroom and shower cubicle might also be a problem for some, as they don’t allow a great deal of privacy! The room was spotlessly clean, and very tastefully furnished. As you can guess from the name, there is modern art everywhere!
The breakfast restaurant is spacious, light and airy, with glass walls looking out onto a pleasant patio terrace. The buffet breakfast included absolutely everything you could possibly think of, from bacon, eggs etc, through to cold meats, salad, fresh fruits, yogurts and cereals, a wide variety of breads and croissants – and even the choice of hard or soft boiled eggs! Hot drinks were dispensed from machines, but the quality was excellent. Our planned ‘early starts’ for sightseeing were delayed every day because we lingered so long over the superb breakfasts!
Although this hotel is not in the centre, we didn’t find this a problem. The 48 bus stop is right outside the hotel, and it only takes 10 mins to the centre. Buses are every 10 mins during the day, and every 15 mins in the evenings. The 22 bus stop is a couple of minutes’ walk away. The 348 Night Bus runs hourly from 00.58.
An extremely useful site is 9292.nl english . The Journey Planner allows you to plan your journey from the airport to the hotel in advance, and to pre-plan trips you may want to take both within and outside the city. NB The 48 bus stop outside the hotel is called HEMPOINT. The 22 stop around the corner is called Zaanhof/Koogstraat.
The best way to get from the airport to the Westcord Art 4* is by train to Amsterdam Sloterdijk, then by 48 bus to Hempoint. The whole journey takes under 30 minutes. You need coins for the train ticket machines: 3.50 euros from the airport to Amsterdam Sloterdijk, if I remember correctly.
It’s worth looking at 24hr, 48 hr, 72hr etc bus/tram tickets, as they work out much cheaper than single journey tickets. We bought 24hr tickets at Holland Tourist Info in the airport, but you can also buy from the driver. We also bought Regional Day Tickets @13.50 euros each, and spent a lovely day visiting the villages of Edam,Volendam, Marken, Broek in Waterland and Monickendam. You’ll find ticket information on GVB Discover Amsterdam.
Reception Staff were very helpful with information and advice, as well as with the purchase of bus tickets and the booking of museums. They also gave us free street maps, which were extremely useful.
I would strongly recommend the Westcord Art 4* as a brilliant base for exploring this beautiful city and the surrounding countryside and villages.

Room Tip: Our room was 135, in the 4* wing. It was spacious and comfortable. The window looked out onto railwa...
