The hotel is ugly from the outside and in an industrial estate. Having said that inside you cant guess that. However on checking in the staff were not the least bit welcoming. The receptionist asked us for my credit card details then without askingmy permission she tried several times to take €100. Then told me it was declined. I said have you been trying to take a payment? We paid in full when we booked. She said nastily "thats what we do in amsterdam". I had not authorised my card to be used abroad. So then she told us as we didnt pay the 100. We had to pay €11.70 amsterdam tax. Whatever this is. Again i presume this should be included in the room rate.
This spoilt our stay. We were offered breakfast at €18 each. Dont do it. Its only €5 in town.
The bus service is easy and friendly.
The westcord art hotel has nice rooms but they arent up to the standard of a travel lodge or holiday inn by any means. The rooms are small but adequate. Room service is available but costly and they charge you €5 just to carry it up the stairs.
Wifi is easy and free.
Really dont go for a couple or lads weekend. Its a buisnessmans place really empty restaurant/bar and you are only permitted to use the outside terrace if the sun is out in summer months. The welcome folder in your room is like a list of rules. It said it contained a drinks voucher for the bar. But it didnt. And reception are so rude and unapproachable we didnt bother to complain.
This was a honeymoon weekend for us after 2 years of dealing with my brain tumour being removed and further brain surgery last year and removal of part of my skull.
My husband thought he had booked us into a luxury hotel and was very upset by the hotels prison camp regime.
Only stay here if you are claiming expenses. We enjoyed amsterdam. We slept well. But dashed through the doors to our room when in the hotel apart from when the key card didnt work,4 men were trapped in the lift and 8 people were queuing at reception.
