The hotel is well situated just a five min walk from Amsterdam Central station and within ten minutes you can be in the centre of the city. I was a bit worried at fist having seen the huge cruseliner docked slap against the side of the hotel honking it's horn, but you can't here a thing from the hotel room. The staff were great and knew a lot about the city. There is also a luggage area that is secure and free (we arrived several hours before check in and this allowed us to go off and explore without the cases)

Dear Corinne C,

I would like to thank you for taking the time for sharing your feedback with us regarding your stay.
Indeed our windows are soundproof and noise from trains, people or in this case cruise boats can hardly be heard. We hope you liked the view you had on this magnificent ship?

Next time you are in Amsterdam, we hope to welcome you again in our hotel.

Kind regards,
the General Manager

Stopped at this hotel for 3 nights. We had a room on the 19th floor with great river views. The room was perfectly acceptable for a weekend break, it was clean, modern and had a very comfy bed. The free mini bar was a nice surprise and we took advantage of the free bar between 5 and 7 for executive rooms. Overall given what we paid for the break it represented excellent value. The hotel was a 10 minute brisk walk from the centre of Amsterdam and we felt totally safe walking to and from the hotel even late at night. The Concierge at the hotel was very helpful and we bought the I Amsterdam cards from there. 57 euros for 48 hours travel on the trams and local trains, admission to a lot of museums, discounts on restaurants and a free boat tour-worked out to be good value and paid for itself. All in all a great city to spend the weekend in and this hotel ticked all the boxes

I had a very comfortable 3-night stay at this excellent hotel.

Positives:

- Fair degree of luxury with relatively large rooms with good amenities
- Clean and comfortable
-Very good service from very friendly and professional staff
-Good views

Negatives:

- Not really "City Center" as name suggests: a fair 15-minute walk or a 5-minute tram ride from what I would describe as the edge of the centre of Amsterdam. It is by the docks where cruise ships stop, in a smart, clean and safe area.
- Quite a lot of (luxury) cruise ship business. Can get very busy and noisy at breakfast, with coffee self-served out of urns.
- Overall décor is smart but clinical and not warm and inviting. Has the feel of a hotel aimed at those on business.
-Not sufficient wardrobe/drawer space in the room for 2 people to people to put away their clothing
-I was surprised that the Club Lounge (which is just about OK for a 4-star hotel) is on the second floor and not on one of the top floors. But I think they've done it this way to be close to the main kitchen and restaurant for convenience; however, considering the very limited amount of hot food served there, I think they could have had a top floor lounge with amazing views. The lounge itself is clinical and functional, but not cosy and comfortable (no easy or armchairs, no sofas) and it lacks atmosphere or any sense of exclusivity.

These are all relatively unimportant negatives, and I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Amsterdam, as long as "being in the middle of it all" is not an important factor.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with views of the city.

Dear Londonmammoth2,

Thank you very much for your feedback and comments. All feedback that we receive is taken very serious and will be discussed within our teams. One of the remarks on your stay in the Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam is its location not being perceived as city centre. The city centre is quite broad and indeed we are not located on the dam square or Kalverstraat. Our hotel is situated in the Eastern Docklands area, a new and upcoming area in the city centre with great views, location on the water’s edge and designer shops and restaurants. It is a less vibrant area than the dam square but therefore an ideal location to come home after a long day walking around and visiting shops or musea. It is an easy reachable location for guests coming by train from the Central Station, by tram (25 or 26) or by car and a perfect spot to start your Amsterdam experience.
I hope you can see that the “other” side of the city centre has a lot to offer as well.

Besides this I hope your stay was satisfactory with us, as we strive to provide all our guests with optimal service. We are certain that comments like this will further help us to continue to provide quality service to our valued (executive) hotel guests.
We certainly hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our hotel in the future.

Kind regards,
the General Manager

Room was clean with a great view of the river no matter which side of the hotel you are on. Small room, but on par for Europe. The location of the hotel is not the best. The walk to town is a bit inconvenient. However, they offer a free shuttle to the train station that leaves periodically. There is a count-down timer on the wall in the lobby so you know when the shuttle will leave. I recommend you take the shuttle to the main station and walk into town from there. They had a good variety of offerings for breakfast.

Dear aikininja916,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I have read your comments with regards to our location. Our hotel shuttle is indeed the most convenient option to go into the city centre. There is also a tram stop in front of the hotel that stops at the Central Station.

Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Kind regards,
The General Manager

We stayed at the Movenpick for 2 nights at the end of our Viking cruise. We arrived mid-morning and we're immediately checked into our room. We had read previous posts and had upgraded to an Executive room for 70 Euros / night. View of river was spectacular from our room on the 20th floor. We took advantage of the drinks and appetizers the first night and they were ok.

We were told we could eat breakfast in either the bar area (restaurant was under renovation) or on the 2nd floor. We tried both on different days. The breakfast in the bar was very minimal with typical buffet fare of scrambled eggs, sausages, yogourt, etc. The 2nd floor breakfast offered a larger selection however very typical of a buffet breakfast. Unlike our pre-cruise stay in Prague there was no omelete station. Other than the view, I' m not sure the upgrade was worth 70 Euros / night as guests 2 floors below got the same view.

The location away from Central Station is ok given the view of the river however had it been raining the 10 minute walk to the station would have required we take the tram or their shuttle service. The Concierge staff was very helpful although the shuttle service to CS requires some expansion. The departure each half-hour is ok however it's a small van with only 8 seats. As the Concierge staff indicated, they have 408 rooms which means the popular departure times are quickly reserved. SUGGESTION - buy a larger van with 24 - 26 seats to compliment the 8 seater when necessary at these peak times.

Others have commented on the ambience of the hotel. It is modern and meets expectations but doesn't exude grandiose charm. It differs from the Barbizon Palace across from Central Station where our friends stayed. On our next visit we'll likely try a hotel closer to CS which offers immediate access to the city core, trams and the atmosphere of the city.

I stayed here with my other half for a couple of nights in June and we loved it. Would come back here to stay again. Staff were pleasant and friendly. You can get a shuttle bus to the hotel just next to central station and this runs every 30mins. The room was excellent on the 14th floor with lovely views of the city. You can walk into the city which is only 15 mins walking or the no26 tram can take you to central station. Didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that. If you arrive before check in you can safely leave your luggage with the hotel and vice versa if you leave late. 5/5 !

Room Tip: Room on a higher floor for the views

First impression of the hotel is really nice, even though I am not a big fan of such a big overnight places :) Good service, convenient location near the station at the canal (little loud though as the street and rails are close). Nicely arranged rooms with comfortable beds and functional bathroom. The breakfast was in a form of buffet with good choice of fresh fruits and dairy products. 4 hours of free Internet is nice, but it is very slow too, so mixed feelings.

When I looked little bit closer, there were few elements that lowered my initial review (spilled coffee on the carpet and black fungus spots all over bathroom). To my surprised after pointing it out in my previous review, all of the above have been removed during room cleaning. So I owe a star back for immediate reaction to the hotel management and staff !

As my counterparts had also cleanness issues, I leave Movenpick with three stars and good prospects for the future :)
