This is a pretty new hotel in a re-developed area of Amsterdam. If you are looking for something bang in the centre, this is not it. I spend a lot of time in Amsterdam, mainly for work, so know it pretty well. As nice accommodation in Amsterdam though, this is fine. You just need to weigh the distance from everything against price, time, etc.

As a newish hotel I thought the rooms, lobby, and gym were all of a good quality. My room was spacious and even had a sofa under the window. I was disappointed with the wi-fi. Either charge and give good quality or make it free and give good quality. Crappy free wi-fi is not the way to go.

Despite some of the reviews, this is not a central hotel. It is a solid 10-15 walk to the central station (and I walk like a New Yorker), but it does have the #26 tram right in front, which is one stop to the the central station. To get to the Museumplein, Leidseplein, RLD, or places like that, you are at least 30 minutes away by public transport. There is also a taxi stand right in front.

Another alternative nearby this hotel is a brand new Doubletree that also has a Starbucks, if you are into that kind of thing, on the ground floor instead of ever more Douwe Eberts. To be more central in a similarly priced chain hotel, I'd look toward the Radisson Blu in the centre or one of the other chain hotels around the Leidseplein.

Dear Andrew F,
Thank you very much for sharing your extensive feedback with us. We are, as you say, located just outside the busy city centre. Besides the public transport we also offer a free shuttlebus to the Central Station (advance booking needed). We are happy to hear your stay was a pleasant one, and apologize for the WIFI being disfunctional, please be assured this has our attention.

We hope to welcome you again in the future, either for business or leisure purposes.

Kind regards,

Amsterdam is a great city and we really liked this modern and exceptionally clean hotel. There is a free shuttle from Centraal to the hotel which definitely helps. No matter it's a short walk from Centraal to the hotel if you can't hop on a shuttle. The bicycle rental (just under the hotel) is way convenient and would also recommend it. Just sad we didn't know it was there until we were almost gone.

Room Tip: Ask for a room up on the top floors, great view of the pier.

Stayed here for 2 nights, perfectly located for the meetings I had at the Passenger Terminal. Easy to get into central Amsterdam (15 minute walk or one stop on tram 26). Room was typical chain hotel, but spacious enough and clean. Nice to be offered choice of floor, king size or twin bed, shower or bath etc on check-in - bed was very comfortable and large walk-in shower had good water pressure. Food was surprisingly good - had room service when I arrived (only took 20 minutes, no service charge for delivery), and lunch in the restaurant one day which was also very good. Nice to have a fridge in the room that you can use for your own water etc. Staff were pleasant. Would stay more central if I was coming for leisure, but was very good for a business trip.

Room Tip: Obviously higher floors have better views (I was on floor 14 which had very good views), if you have preference for bath or shower/king size or twin beds etc just ask at check-in and they will try to accommodate you

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Movenpick at the end of August. We got a great deal through our airmiles, and after looking at the reviews i knew i definitely wanted to stay here. It has a great location literally a 5minute walk from Centraal Station, and only 15 minutes to Dam Square. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and very well decorated. The beds were huge and super comfy as well. The bathroom was amazing, the shower was huge and extremely luxurious. We were on the bed & breakfast board, and holy crap the choice we had. They had everything you could want for breakfast, even a woman making omelettes to order in front of you. There was a selection of everything for anyone, even the fussiest eaters. We were away on a trip for our anniversary, and to make it a bit special i asked for a bottle of champagne for when we arrived. I phoned the hotel and there was no fuss, they said it would be waiting for us when we arrived. It was waiting in our room, and even the presentation of the bottle and glasses was gorgeous. Try and get a room on the floors near the top, as the views are spectacular across the city. I would most definitely stay here again, and would recommend this hotel to anybody, no matter what the reason for your trip. I had a great time and hope to be back soon!

Room Tip: Get a room on one of the top floors - the views are amazing

Generally the Moevenpick is a great choice for a stay in Amsterdam. It's convenient to the Tram, far enough away from the Dam square to be quiet but close enough that travel time to get there is minimal. The hotel is modern, the rooms clean and spacious (by European standards anyway) and the staff is polite and helpful. The view of the harbour from out our 9th floor room was beautiful. The negatives: the carpet was stained and in need of replacement as was the little couch under the window. The couch has a tear right in the middle of it and a couple of stains as well. Twice I ordered room service, and twice they got my order wrong. For the price of ordering room service I expect perfection not a ceasar salad missing both the chicken and the dressing. I gave them a second chance the next and they messed that order up as well. I walked away from my stay with the hotel happy and would use them again. I just would not order room service.

Room Tip: Requst a higher up floor as the view is great and less likely to be blocked by the giant cruise ships often parked around the back of the hotel.
