“Not scary and not informative”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

This attraction was lame and ridiculous. It wasn't scary at all (except for the times perhaps when you were left in pitch black) and their attempts to frighten were mostly getting up-close and staring at people for a long time. I was looking forward to the advertised rollercoaster part of the tour, but this was barely 30 seconds long. Not really sure who the attraction is targeted to: with fake dead bodies and periods of pitch black it would be too scary for children, but it's too tame for adults.

I was expecting it to be a bit educational about the historical underbelly of Amsterdam (which I would have found quite interesting), but there was nothing. They mentioned the names VOC and Batavia in passing but that was all; the signs out the front said the plague but this wasn't even mentioned; there was a super fake witch burning, but didn't mention the history of this in Amsterdam.

On the plus side though, this is good for Dutch and English alike, as the actors switch back and forward between the languages very seamlessly.

Amsterdam D, Manager at The Amsterdam Dungeon, responded to this review, May 23, 2013
We’re sorry to hear you were disappointed with your experience. Guest satisfaction is really important to us and we appreciate your feedback.
The Dungeon is aimed at 14 to 30 year olds, but in particular 16 to 18 year old. We know from customer feedback that people love to have a laugh in the Dungeon – and as such the Amsterdam Dungeon is a combination of both scares and fun. The Amsterdam Dungeon overall receives high customer satisfaction of 93%.

The rollercoaster is about 2 mins long. This might not be comparable with a rollercoaster in a theme park but we have aimed to create a thrilling ride within the context of the building.

Our tours are based on real history and through our actors’ performances we aim to breathe life into Amsterdam’s history. To provide the right balance of entertainment and education we have created scripts that tell the story in a funnily scary manner. Our special tours for schools provide a little more focus on the educational side. The plague show is been replaced for the Withces show, we are sorry that this was not evident enough and we will take your feedback on board.

We are proud to be a dual-language attraction and we are pleased do hear that you feel this worked well.

Thank you again for your feedback.

“Best Dungeon yet”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

I have been to quite a few of these including york and edinburugh. However this was the best one yet. The actors were very good and the ride at the end was unexpected but fun! Buy the ticket online for a better price and deal then on the door. The tour lasted about an hour which was very good value for the price we paid and we found it funny and entertaining.

“First time dungeon for me, loved it”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

Since it way my first time dungeon I have no comparison. I did some scary attractions in some amusement parks, but not thing like this so far. In my opinion it was not so scary, but more like interesting experience and fun. Definetely not for small children, from our group of 10 persons 4 left, couple children and some lady.
I did not mind switching between English and Dutch. I expected something a bit different but was pleasantly surprised. Well done and recommended.

Reviewed May 6, 2013

We had at great time at the dungeon, I love the stories, the settings and well, everything. And my friend got scared half to death. It is not that scary but sometimes my pulse went up for real.
There is a small rollercoster inside the buildning and it was so much fun!
If you are in amsterdam, do NOT miss this!
