Great location but not a great hotel.. In fact to call it a hotel is a bit of an insult to hotels. A cramped room with 3 tiny single beds a shower room for almost 350 euros for 2 nights. We skipped breakfast!

It really is as bad as the reviews suggest, shame we didnt look on here first. is just about passable as a hostel that you would expect to pay £20 a night for. 4 beds with horrid knackered matresses in a 12 foot by 8 room. In desperate need of a full makeover. breakfast is just tea and toast, which you make yourself. noise from disco underneath and bars outside goes on all night. you need to be absolutly out of it, to get any sleep. would not wish this place on my worst enemy

this hotel is not clean, in bad state, needs repainting, new curtains. In bathroom: just a lightbulb hanging from the ceiling, no real lampshade. Isolation is inexistant: you hear your neighbors talking.
Breakfast is so poor: no yoghourt, no fruit, no croissant, no cereals. The service is also minimum.
I never experienced such a bad stay and at that excessive price: 154,00 Eur for one night. This was worth 50 Eur maximum. I tried to have a small discount but impossible!
We are so disappointed. Hopefully never such a bad experience again!

wasn´t too impressed with this hotel as I paid over 70 pounds for one night with a shared bathroom. The hotel is in a central location - but that was about the only advantage that it had. I felt that the price I paid was WAYYYY too high.

I have stayed at some dumps before - so am used to "roughing it" but.. this hotel took the biscuit!

We had to leave at 7am to catch our transport home. There is no tram at that time on a sunday morning so we left to walk up to central station. I advised the receptionist about this when we arrived and the response was just "tough" that we would therefore miss the breakfast that we had paid for. I would have preferred to have opted out of making this payment but there wasn´t such an option when I booked. NORMALLY hotels allow for guests leaving at different times in the morning and leave a cold buffet if they know that guests will be leaving earlier than the normal serving up time - HOWEVER - I didn´t think that our scheduled departure WAS that early. There was someone on reception all night - so surely they could have pulled out a few pieces of bread to make toast - or even pulled out some croissants or something... surely that wouldn´t have been that difficult considering we had paid for breakfast. There isn´t much open in Amsterdam on a sunday morning either - so potentially we would have had to travel without anything to eat. We were bussing it from Amsterdam to Calais without a scheduled break for food - so this wouldn´t have been great - since I was travelling with a three year old child! Luckily I had bought a small carton of UHT milk and a mini pack of cereals so my little girl was able to eat something before we left - no thanks to Thorbecke Hotel.

We were right up on the top floor - which is about 3 or 4 almost verticle stair cases up from reception (which itself is a long verticle climb from the entrance). There is no-where to leave your cases at the door when you arrive so you need to take them up the stairs in one go. The entrance to the hotel is at the entrance to the disco - so you won´t want to leave them outside either.

The room had a kettle and some cups as well as some complimentary tea bags and sugar - so we could make a cup of tea when we got up in the morning - which was quite good. there were two little beds (watch the ceiling when you stand up as there isn´t much room) as well as a TV with some English channels. Lots of the Dutch channels also show programmes in other languages with Dutch subtitles so you should find something to watch. Although the room didn´t have its own bathroom or toilet - they were just next door - and we didn´t have to queue to use them. They were also fairly clean! There was also a wash hand basin in the room with a mirror for freshening up.

I wouldn´t rush back to the Thorbecke hotel...

also.. expect to be charged for a key deposit when you arrive.... this wasn´t advised when I booked and paid in advance.

ALSO.... When we booked the website said that there was free cancellation - HOWEVER the Thorbecke hotel have a cancellation charge themselves - which just happen to be the SAME PRICE as the actual total price of booking the room for the night. Check before you book this hotel if you are not sure of your actual travel arrangements. You may end up paying even if you decide not to travel - no matter what your booking site says!

Room Tip: just book elsewhere - or if you do want to stay here - make sure you get a low floor - as you will h...
