June 2007...

to anyone contemplating Barangay B&B, Amsterdam

Barangay B&B was at our first destination as part of a 10-day vacation, and first time in Europe. We were of course excited and a bit apprehensive about our journey and much to our pleasure found that the directions posted at their website on how to get to their place from the airport were accurate and easy to follow.

Upon arrival we were promptly and cheerfully greeted by our hosts and made to feel welcome. We appreciated the time that our hosts spent with us during our check-in to offer numerous tips and resources that made our brief stay much more enjoyable.

The accommodations were impeccable and luxurious, and we enjoyed the fact that your location is within a 30 minute or less walk from most anything worth seeing in Amsterdam.

Travelling in honor of our 25th wedding anniversary, we were accompanied by our children, both university students in their early 20's. They, as we did, thourgoughly enjoyed our too-brief stay in Amsterdam, in no small part due to this excellent B&B. Barangay was our comfortable "home base" while we explored Amsterdam, armed with knowledge and resources that our hosts very helpfully equipped us with.

We have pets and home, which our kids missed because they attend university at distance from home, so they were pleased to meet our hosts' two feline residents, flip & gogo!

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed your B&B, both the accommodations and the hospitality. We are more than pleased to have chosen Barangay B&B over a hotel, and recommend Barangay to our friends and associates who may consider a trip to Amsterdam.
Would we stay there again? Absolutely!
If there is one critique it's that I don't recommend the upper rooms of this B&B to someone with a mobility disability, as the stairs to get to the rooms are very steep and narrow. However I understand that their are more accessible rooms on lower floors.

A tous lecteurs francophones: nous avons été chaleureusement acceuilli à la Maison d'Hotes Barangay, et nous sommes entierement satisfait de notre brève visite là au mois de mai 2007.

All the best,
Rick & Kathy C.

The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They are happy to pass on their knowledge of the area and were very helpful in directing us to places to visit and eat.

The location of the b&b is great. It's situated on a nice quiet road but only minutes from the canals, good restaurants, shops and the station.

We stayed in the South Tropical room, which was very clean and spacious with a large bathroom. The decor meant that it wasn't your
'typical' hotel room and it was really nice to stay somewhere with a difference.

We would definately stay there again.

We stayed in one of the apartments run by the Barangay B & B for almost two weeks, using it as our base to explore Amsterdam and nearby cities. This is a great location, just a few minutes walk from Centraal Station and the trams. It's on a quiet residential street, but just behind it is a main shopping street with restaurants, shops, groceries, laundromat, etc. And just another block and you are walking along the beautiful canals in the Western End and into the Jordaan; the Dam Square area wasn't too far away either. The hosts, Wimmo and Godwin, were helpful and friendly, always had time for a chat. They gave us many recommendations and purchased museum tickets online for us so we didn't have to stand in long lines at the venues. The apt., with full kitchen, was very clean, comfortable and quiet - great for relaxing after long days of sightseeing and walking. They cleaned regularly while we were there, changed the linens and supplied coffee and tea. We would definitely stay here again.

From the time my cousin and I arrived I felt at home at Barangay Bed and Breakfast. The hosts, Wimmo and Godxxx were absolutely magnificent. You could see that they took a lot of pride in what they are doing. I have never felt so welcome in any other accomodation anywhere else in the world!.

When we arrived we were offered coffee and tea and were given a map of the city along with many suggestions on which areas to visit, which restaurants to eat at, etc.

The room was uniquely and beautifully decorated. The decor was tropical, with warm colors and romantic lighting. The bed was very comfortable. I had requested a thin pillow and sure as well the pillow was just right! We slept well, without any noise disturbances. The room was equiped with a TV, internet connection, fridge, small table and chairs, plenty of space for clothing and a kettle with coffee, tea, sugar and creamer. In short, everything we needed was there!

In the bathroom, (which was immaculately clean and beautifully finished with wood siding) we found an abundance of lotions, soaps and shampoo's for us to use. In the hallway there was a big bowl full of complimentary candies. My favorites were the toffees!

Barangay's Breakfast in Bed is truly a treat to the tastebuds. It arrives at exactly the requested time and is more then just yummy!. It was like having the horn of plenty being delivered to the room every day. Wimmo is absolutely the greatest chef!. And ofcourse it was service with a smile, even in the wee hours of the morning!

Originally I had booked a room for myself, but my cousin came along and we decided that it would be nice for her to stay over for one night, which was not a problem at all. The only extra charge was that of the price of the breakfast that was served in morning. We found that extremely fair!

Barangay B&B is ideally located in the centre of Amsterdam, just a few minutes walk from the train station, where you can catch trams/busses and taxies to anywhere you want to go within the city. Right around the corner of Barangay B&B is the Jordaan, apperantly the oldest part of the Amsterdam, with it's quaint little stores and restaurants. Very close by you can catch a tour boat where you can go for an hour long ride though the canals. Shopping is great around this area as well...

To sum it all up: In my opinion you have not lived until you have stayed in the Barangay Bed & Breakfast! Check it out, and you'll never go anywhere else when staying in Amsterdam. I know that I won't!!!

We stayed at Barangay as a group of 7 (25-31 year old) girls. We were accomodated in 3 separate rooms....the masters upper, which is a lovely, airy, large room at the top of the building...one of the patio rooms, which was downstairs & great too....& in the studio, which is next door & has a separate entrance. This was a fantastic room with a large kitchen area & a outdoor area.
The great hosts, Wimmo & Godwin were really friendly & helpful. We booked a private boat-trip through them which proved to be THE highlight of our weekend - highly recommended!
The B&B is situated a few minutes walk from the station & is ideally located for any of Amsterdam's attractions & is also close to many shops/restaurants/cafes etc.
We're already planning a trip back next year & would definitely stay there again if they'll have us!!

N.B. If you have problems with stairs I would recommend staying in the Studio room...the upstairs rooms are up two very steep narrow staircases.

We decided on an Amsterdam trip at the last minute and there were not too many affordable options for a family of 4. I was very happy we selected the Barangay. We spent 2 nights in a 2 bedroom family sized room and the next 2 nights in an apartment (I would have loved this for all nights but as I said it was last minute). The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The B&B was clean, with an island feel. I loved the location, near the Jordaan district. Lively but not seedy like some parts of Amsterdam can be. The apartment was well stocked and quirky (in a nice way).
