“Best place I ever stayed in Amsterdam!”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

I stayed here last weekend and I can't say enough about how great the hosts are!

When we arrived Wimmo & God greeted us with a cold juice and we were then shown to our room.
We stayed in one of the rooms on the upper floors and it was perfect. Really comfy bed and homey setting. The breakfast was also amazing! I will stay here again when I return to Amsterdam.

Thanks for a great stay!

We loved Barangay B&B! Wimmo and Godwin were excellent hosts, gave us the warm welcome that others have described, and they are very relaxed and funny. Wimmo insisted on carrying my overlarge bag (which we had been warned against but, hey, I travel with a lot of stuff) up the stairs himself (I had thought my new husband would do the carrying). The stairs get a little scary towards the top, so if you're afraid of heights, you might want to stay on a lower floor. Our room was romantic with a nice view and a nice bathroom and shower. The bed had the heart-shaped towel "sculpture" and rose petals scattered. They also gave us a celebratory bottle of champagne since it was our honeymoon. We liked the do-it-yourself breakfasts which included as much as you wanted of a variety of things; no, there are no home-cooked dishes, but you will find things that you like. We liked the location just a few minute walk from the train station, but on a quiet street.

Though the owner of the B&B was my university classmate, my review of the B&B is going to be very objective. The location was 5 minutes away from the central train station and it was really at the center area. At check-in, my classmate and his partner offered what was standard to all guests (choice of welcome drink and an orientation of places to see/things to do/not to do in Amsterdam). The only extra I got was a discount at the room rate. They also offered discount voucher for canal tour which was standard to all guests. Got a room with private bath (a surprise for B&B). Not sure of the other rooms if they had private bath. Our room was very spacious and bathroom had shower area and tub. Breakfast was was good, bread, jams, ham, and we had the choice of cooking our own eggs.

The gentlemen who run this establishment are some of the nicest people that I have met and have taken such great time to insure that each of the guest rooms is decorated quite well and that the furniture is comfortable. We stayed in one of the upstairs rooms which was absolutely HUGE and the bed was very comfortable. The assortment of food that they offer for breakfast is just incredible and very fresh and delicious. Not to mention that the street that goes behind this BnB is the "main" tourist street so you are very close to attractions. The train station is also just across the street and that is how we both arrived and departed Amsterdam.

Wimmo and Godwin gave us a very warm welcome when we arrived. The directions that they had sent to us were very clear and we had no trouble finding the B&B which is very well situated near to the central station and a short walk from most of the major attractions and many reasonably prices restaurants.
It has no parking but Amsterdam has a great park and ride system for only 8 euros per day. Driving in the city looked a bit manic and I wouldn't have liked to attempt it dodging all of the bikes.
Wimmo gave us lots of extremely useful information about where to eat, the attractions etc and had lots of 'beat the queues' ways to book. He was very helpful with all of our queries.
We had the Budda room with an eclectic collection of trinkets and decorations from far off places. Don't expect minimalist boutique here, think more interesting and individual. The huge bed was very comfortable and the shower was very good.
Breakfast was a help yourself affair with all of the Dutch breakfast foods available. It was nice to meet other guests and have a chat at the communal table.
The situation and price were excellent, the B&B very comfortable and a little different, very Dutch.
(The stairs are steep so smaller cases are better.)

Room Tip: The budda room is a good size and on the first floor

Returned to Barangay with some friends to celebrate a birthday. Barangay is as good as ever and being only a few minutes walk from Central Station it's in a great location, close to local amenities but away from noise. Wimmo and Godwin are the perfect hosts, welcoming and friendly and the rooms are clean and comfortable with all needs catered for - tea / coffee / water / har dryer / tv / mini fridge, etc etc. We booked the tropical rooms which includes breakfast in bed - delicious and huge and will keep you going all day. I cannot recommend Barangay highly enough, you would be crazy to consider anywhere else before checking availability here, honestly!

I am unsure how this B&B is not number one in Amsterdam. The location is fantastic (5 mins walk from Central Station.(see photos) The hosts Wimmo and Godwin are excellent with Wimmo sitting you down when you arrive asking what you are looking for out of your stay offering tea and coffee and all the things you can see while in and around town. We chose the patio room downstairs.Nice room clean ,tidy and the patio outside to sit and read after a busy day exploring. Yes they have steep stairs but we are in our 60's and had no trouble getting up and down. Last but not least you cannot go past the world famous breakfast.
I have also included many photos of the B&B and what it is like inside please see the attached photos and you will not be dissapointed at this B&B. If we come back we would definately stay here. Great hosts and location, Location.

Room Tip: All are good only your preference will dictate what floor you want to be on.
