“Wouldn't stay here again”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

We stayed at the Tichelstraat location for 3 nights. The positive part to staying here is that it is located in the Jordaan area and a 5 minute walk to public transportation. The negative part to staying here is that the room was very small and the toilet/shower was separated from the sleeping area by a curtain. No privacy. Not to mention that the toilet and shower are in the same space, so you are provided a squeegee to clear out the water after showering. I've never seen anything like it. The people staying upstairs were noisy and talking loudly at all hours of the night. There are narrow/steep stairs to climb to access the room which could be hazardous. One more thing, not sure why it's called a B&B. B&B's make breakfast for you where as here you are asked to provide a list of breakfast foods/supplies you would like so that you can use the kitchen and make it yourself.

We stayed for three nights. The location is fantastic - five minutes walk to all the bars and restaurants around Leidesplein and trams to other parts of the city, 10 minutes walk to Vondelpark and a canal boat operator. What's more the house is directly on Prinsengracht, so you can spend all day watching people and boats go by if you wish.

The living room is really comfortable with notebook computer, TV, Hi fi, DVD player if you want to stay in. The kitchen is well - equipped. The bed is Queen size and comfortable, the bathroom is good.

As per other reviews, you need to be aware that the stairs are narrow and steep (they weren't much better in parts of the Anne Frank museum). This is a feature of these buildings and you need to think if this will be a problem for you.

When we stayed there was an electric dance conference taking place and the Leidesplein area was very busy at night. Subsequently, there was a bit of noise from people going home early in the morning (which we are not used to) - so sleep was a little interrupted. Not noticed this being mentioned in other reviews, so perhaps this was a one off - related to the festival. Would we stay here again - yes definitely.

Eric's B&B isn't technically a B&B as there's no breakfast. It is, however, a very nice apartment on the 4th and 5th level of a privately-owned, centrally-located canal house. Lower level is living room, small dining table, kitchenette. Upper level is bedroom and bath. The furnishings aren't fancy but are certainly comfortable. The owners live in the lower levels and make sure your needs are taken care of, then give you plenty of privacy. Location couldn't be better--on a canal and about 3 blocks to Leidseplein which is our favorite part of Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Getting up to the unit--and going between the two floors of the unit--requires negotiating several f...

Looking for the perfect place to stay in Amsterdam? Something that's truly spacious, really central, yet away from the madness, connected by the trams, overlooking the canal, and gives you a taste of how it feels to live in a canal house?? Sounds too good to be possible? Well, you have to experience Eric's Room with a View to actually believe it.

I spent 5 beautiful days in this cosy 2 storeyed apartment and fell in love with the house and the city.

The Apartment - The house (its not really a bnb!) is right on the crossing of Prinsengracht and Liedesgracht, giving you a gorgeous view of 2 beautiful canals. The 4 storey house belongs to Eric, who lives on the first 2 floors. The 2 floors above is a duplex, self catering apartment with a separate entrance so its completely private. Floor 1 has a fully functional kitchen (with Wedgewood crockery no less) and a lovely living area with a comfy couch, a small dining table, tv, laptop with wifi, a good sound system, a beautiful full book shelf and some priceless curios. It also has a little balcony where we sat and waved at all the tourists passing by in the canal boats. Floor 2 has a spacious bedroom with a real comfy bed and a large modern bathroom. The entire apartment has lots of windows, lots of fresh air, light and sounds of laughter from the cafe next door and boats passing the canal. It's paradise really. (Note: The steps in these canal houses are very narrow and might be a problem for the elderly - but that is something that is common across Amsterdam!)

The Location - Its about 100 mts from the tram stop, situated a stone's throw away from the buzzing Leidesplein and about 15 min walk to Museum square and Rembrandt square, 20 min to Vondelpark and Dam square. So its right in the middle of all the action. You can walk all around the centre of the city or just take the 72 hr pass and just hop on off trams to every possible location in Amsterdam. Its also not in the over populated touristy areas like Dam and Centre so it gives you a flavor of living like a local. The canal ring is lined with beautiful, posh houses and lovely little cafes. Every possible convenience requirement (grocery/laundromat/tram stops etc) are in the 150m radius. Location really cant get better than this.

The host - Eric is a private, peaceful and generous host. He had stocked up our fridge with fruits, meats, bread and eggs. Left useful maps and books around for us to use. Check in and out and all the booking correspondences were prompt and detailed. We met him only once but he was always available on email or phone.

It's such a pity that its ranked at 30. But I cant help feel a little pleased that it might mean that this apartment doesnt get crazily over popular and still remains a small hidden gem for our next visit. I'm hooked and I will be back Eric!!

stayed here from Aug 3 - 7 . we stayed at his property in govert flinckstraat. upon seeing the place, i was amazed at the size of the property. It was big for european standards. the fridge was stacked with stuff i requested. it was clean.

the only drawback with this property is that going to the apartment which is in the second floor, the stairs are very little/narrow. it's dangerous, anyone could easily fall in these steps. there's no maid service like other B&B where everyday someone comes over to clean the place. we lost the keys and we were charged 50 euros for it and when i asked for receipt, the proprietor gave me a receipt of his B&B indicating the item about key duplication. i was asking for the real receipt from the duplication that says it's really worth 50 euros.

the proprietor was nice but he just wasn't that transparent about all his fees. not a good way to do business actually. so for everyone who wants to stay at this place, just make sure you dont incur any incidentals like lost keys and etc coz you might be charged a hefty amount for it.

Stayed at the Govert Flinckstraat groundfloor apartment.
Very good location: it’s next to the Center of the city, but not INSIDE the Center, which is better in my opinion, because you don’t suffer all the normal noisiness of the Center. The street is very quiet also and well connected with Tram and Metro, although it’s perfectly possible to do everything walking.
The apartment is very luminous for a groundfloor. It’s clean, well decorated, well furnished, with all necessary utensils, and everything worked perfectly.
Finally, Eric was very friendly and never hesitated to help me when necessary.
Definitely, it’s a fantastically functional place to stay!!

We recently stayed at 'Room with a View' for the first time, and we absolutely loved it!! This apartment is perfect for a short or long stay in Amsterdam, perfectly situated within walking distance of most amenities. We loved our warm welcome with a seat on the balcony watching the world go by! The apartment is extremely clean and tidy, and Eric is a great host. The kitchen is fully equipped, apart from an oven, but more importantly a dishwasher! There's a supermarket within 10 minutes walking distance. Its lovely to be able to cook your own breakfast, open the balcony doors and wave at the passing tourists on the canal who think its your apartment! We would love to come back and stay here again, as its a perfect place to relax, yet be in the heart of the city. We'll be back soon!!!
