“Felt like home, only more luxurious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2011

We stayed in the Cook's Suite for a romantic weekend and were not disappointed - the place is fantastic and Claudia was brilliant!

First I'll get the potential negative out of the way... If you have mobility issues or enjoy supping on one too many beers then beware the steep stairs - especially the ones up to the bedroom! The buildings in Amsterdam are all the more charming for the steep, winding stairs, but it is worth bearing them in mind. Having said that we didn't have any problems, even after a few Duvels!! There was also some warping of the floor boards - Claudia is trying to get this sorted out asap but as long as you remember it's there then no problem.

The apartment itself is absolutely beautiful, and was very clean and welcoming. A lot of thought has obviously gone into everything, and it pays off. The entertainment system was great, with a large selection of dvds, cds and books. We stayed in most evenings as we wanted to make the most of our surroundings! The coffee maker was brilliant fun, and made great coffee, and the selection of complimentary drinks was a lovely touch.

Unfortunately the weather was nice so we didn't have chance to use the log fire - but we consoled ourselves with regular use of the steam room in the bathroom! Also one of the best showers we've ever used.

The bed is upstairs in the rafters of the building. We slept really well and the room had a very relaxing feel to it.

Breakfast is delivered to your door each morning in a basket. One word sums it up - delicious.

Overall: We had an amazing time in Amsterdam and loved The Flying Pancake, I would recommend it to anyone who fancies a bit of luxury in a quiet(ish) location within walking distance of pretty much everywhere!

We really enjoyed our stay in the Cook's Suite. Perfect location especially during Queen's Day weekend - close enough to all the parties but a quiet place to lay your head at night.

Claudia and her spouse certainly did a fantastic job in restoring the suites. Great charm, character, and attention to detail.

The stairs were a bit challenging after a couple of beers and sitting in the sun along the canals, but that's part of the charm I suppose. :)

Also - highly recommend the Indonesian restaurant that Claudia has suggested!! Brilliant meal!!!

If we were to travel to Amsterdam again we would without question want to stay at The Flying Pancake B&B.

Room Tip: Ask for the Cook's Suite :)

We spent two nights in Flying Pancake in April 2011 and it was the best ever trip to Amsterdam. I've been here five times but never seen such kind of accommodation - very elegant, authentic, cozy and convenient. Two days was just amazing. B&B is located 15 minutes walking from busy center, in a fantastic quite Jewish district. There are a lot of beautiful things to discover at night round here: from Magere Brug to Rembrandt Plein, Niewmarkt and Waterloo Plein. I've opened Amsterdam city in a new glossy cover, thanks to Flying Pancake. I'm really appreciated to Claescha (sorry, don't know spelling) and Claudia. Will come back soon.

Very nice B&B indeed ! Worth the money especially for a longer stay.
If you only stay one or two nights you don't need/use the luxury on offer and then it might be better to look for a cheaper option but saying that we don't regret having stayed at he FP !

A really nice b&b. In the center of Amsterdam, on a walking distance of good restaurants and great bars. The rooms are very cozy and feel immediately like home!

The best B&B I've ever stayed in. Room was lovely, very clean with a wonderful bathroom with a steam shower. Breakfast was at your door every morning with fresh breads, cheeses and meats. Claudia was a great landlady and provide us bikes and precious hints/suggestions. Would definitely stay here again.

The Flying Pancake offers two separate apartments on the top floors of a typical Dutch house. Each one consists of cooking area, bedroom, living area and bathroom. The level and quality of amenities is very high - the overall feeling is of informal, comfort. I've stayed here several times, and look forward to doing so again later in the year.
