perfect bed and breakfast hotel in the heart of amsterdam. directly located at the nieuwmarkt, all interesting sites can easily be accessed via the metro, which is also directly there. typical amsterdam architecture with steep and narrow stairs. very cozy and friendly service. thank you rachel!! we will come back again in summer. :-) 5 stars plus!

There's little to add that hasn't already been said.
It exceeded our expectations at just about every level. We had been concerned about its proximity to the Red Light District, but the fact is that while it's only a couple of blocks away geographically, it's a million miles away metaphorically.
We intend to return to Amsterdam and stay in this fine small hotel.

Piling on all of the other positive reviews, had to share a handful of the reasons we loved our experience staying here for five days late in the summer of 2012:
- Surprisingly quiet given the central location -- we were on the 2nd or 3rd floor at the back of the hotel, overlooked a quiet courtyard which also provided a bit of fun voyeurism into "real" Amsterdammers' lives
- Proprietor's recommendations for restaurants not on the typical tourist circuit
- Coziness of our room and the common areas paired with lovely modern design details -- you'll feel like you're staying in the home of a very hip friend
- Breakfast!
- Proprietor's help in renting us bycicles and helping us plan a little cycling day trip
- Easy walking distance to restaurants, museums, train station, shopping, etc... we walked everywhere for 5 days with the exception of cycling trip mentioned above

Room Tip: All the reviews we read at the time we booked were for the canal side rooms, so booking at the back...

We stayed here for five nights over New Years and were very happy with our choice.
Great location. Comfy rooms. Yummy breakfast, don't skip the bacon.
Owners very helpful with any questions you have as well.

Room Tip: Yes canal view rooms can be slightly noisier but your view easily makes up for it.

I'm not one for big fancy hotels, but I occasionally want some of the creature comforts that the big chains offer. That's why I loved misc eatdrinksleep so much! It has the personal service and funky (but cool, not kitchy) decor of a b and b, but the plush beds and room amenities of a grand hotel! The location could not be more perfect - just on the eastern edge of the Red Light district and a stone's throw from the 'dam's Chinatown, but never more than a 10-15 minute walk from any of the city's attractions - museums, Leidseplein, Jordaan, etc. The free hot breakfast each morning is also a nice perk, and service was extremely attentive. Recommendations and reservations were always addressed with promptness and detail. However, this place is not for everyone. Since the misc is located in a typical canal house, it is tall and narrow, so you must be hardy of soul and spirit to hike the stars to your room day and night. But a wonderful relaxing room awaits, and you get to work off the pankooken as well!

We booked the hotel after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor and can thoroughly recommend it. We have been to the City 3/4 times before and stayed at a Crowne Plaza in the centre but fancied a change and this place looked quite unique and was subject of good reviews.
We were not disappointed !! It is easy to miss (as we did on a rainy Friday night when we arrived - but that was because it was closer to Central Station than I thought !)
Staff are very helpful, albeit thin on the ground but there are only 6 rooms and there was always someone to contact. It's a bit more like staying in someone's city centre home than a hotel. That said the 'home owners' go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The complimentary drinks and snacks in the room are a very good touch and the central location is great for any visitor wanting to get to the heart of the city just by stepping out of the front door. Breakfasts are just what you want on this type of stay and they are served on a very accomodating time schedule.
Highly recommend this place to couples or lone travellers but not families with young kids. We would definitely go again. Thank you Misc Eatdrinksleep !!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back meant we heard little noise and slept undisturbed right in the city centre.

Spent 3 nights at the Misc in November 2012. A treat for my birthday, we paid around €400 for our visit.
The first great thing about the Misc is its fantastic location. Just steps from Nieuwmarkt, 2 minutes from the Red Light District and a stroll to Dam Square, it's a brilliant place to base yourself. Nieuwmarkt is a great place to head out for a night - plenty of lovely bars and places to eat.
Misc is a traditional canal house, so it's narrow, with one hell of a staircase - mobility is necessary to get up to the rooms! But we liked its charm and cosiness.
We stayed in the Africa room. Right at the top of the house. Great views over the canal, this was a really sweet room - fab decor (a bit worn in places) - but a comfy bed, TV with UK channels and the fabled free mini bar (which didn't get refilled when we were there but no matter, it's a nice touch). The bathroom and loo were tiny - but very clean.
Breakfasts were yummy, the lovely man cooking them was charming and we loved his cappuccinos and scrambled egg making skills! Nice little touches made brekkie fun, like the magazines and guide books all around the breakfast room.
The only downside was the noise. I'm not a light sleeper but the traffic, shouts from the street, etc, seemed to be magnified even 3 floors up! I slept quite badly. But this is an old house, no double glazing, and you're in the middle of the city, what can you do. Take earplugs and the room has a white noise machine, which is useful! And hearing the church bells is lovely in the morning.
Didn't get to meet the owners apart from on the last morning but the guys we did meet were great hosts and I'm not fussed about meeting the people who own B&Bs anyway. Nice to be able to come and go as you please, which you can at the Misc. Kitkat (the house cat) was there to welcome us when we came in a lot of the time!
All in all, really liked it here. Might ask for a room at the back of the house next time (quieter?) but had a great stay and loved feeling like we were living in the heart of old Amsterdam.
