“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

The College hotel is in the museum district of Amsterdam. It's a lovely looking boutique hotel, the decor is great and the atmosphere is good. The location is not as central as I would have liked and is a fairly long walk into the center of the city.

The staff were very helpful. I arrived at 11am and left my bag, returning around midday from a short walk. My room still wasn't ready but they moved me into another room so that I could check in early - much appreciated.

I had a club sandwich for my lunch which was lovely, and the breakfast was really very large indeed - pretty good value. My corner room was clean, with very high ceilings and huge, huge windows. There was only one English speaking TV channel - BBC World News. The bathroom was nicely decorated with a lovely shower, quite dark but not pokey.

All in all, a good hotel - I'd recommend it.

With very high ceiling, spaceous rooms, cosy lounge and friendly young staff (mostly students). Good quality for the price. Lots of great small restaurants, and some of the main museums, nearby. Trams 5 and 24 from the central railway station stop right next to the hotel.

Eating out in Amsterdam? Want a lovely meal in a garden? Go somewhere else...the last time I ate in the lovely garden at The College Hotel, meeting a girlfriend for a lovely lunch, we thought, the service was so bad it took 3 hours. We waited over an hour for food, having ordered salads. No-one came to explain, or apologise, or give us any bread or anything. Ordered a 'Virgin Mary' and got a warmish glass of tomato juice and had to ask for ice, spices, tabasco, etc. Finally after many requests food arrived and my friend got the wrong order entirely! Returned it. Still no apology or explanation. Finally she got her food too, and (again) something was wrong, but she was starving and had to leave so she ate it. The only thing they got right? When we complained about all these things, they only charged for drinks. Yet will never return.

We stayed at this lovely hotel for four nights as a 25th anniversary celebration and we really enjoyed our time there. The hotel is in a beautiful building and is very conveniently located for the main museums, the Concertgebouw and most places. The 'superior' room was a decent size and stylishly furnished, though it was exceptionally dark in the evenings (the lighting was pretty poor, which is my only complaint about the hotel..). The young staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and they made us feel welcome and at home throughout our stay. Amsterdam is a gorgeous city and I hope to return many more times. If I do, I would be delighted to stay at this hotel again. I recommend it very highly indeed.

We stayed here for 2 nights last saturday and we really enjoyed every minute of it.
The rooms where really beautiful and the service from the moment you walk in is great!
Don't forget to visit the bar and the restaurant….there is a great atmosphere there and you feel that the staff is going all the way to make your stay unforgettable.
Next time we visit Amsterdam we are sure to stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and it was a great stay. The staff was attentive and helpful with many requests. A gentleman named Kuhn was always fantastic and solved some small issues for me initially.

My only complaints are 1) the rooms are really, really dark. They're just not lit well and 2) There are virtually no vegan or vegetarian options at their restaurant.
