Everything you need within walking distance - including tram #9 to the city centre less than a minute walk. Comfortable beds, fully stocked kitchen. Charming view!
The hosts are very welcoming and attentive. The apartment is bright and clean (1rst floor). It's about 20 minutes from the historical center with the tram 9 (stop at 100 meters). In particular the bedding is excellent (rare in a rented apartment). The installation is convenient and suitable for a holiday stay. Closely are useful shops : bakery, butchery and supermaket. The area is rather quiet and is near a park. We enjoyed a neighborhood atmosphere that allowed us to relax after a day of city tour. We recommend this apartment.
Ravir and Peter's Apartment In upper east Amsterdam was just prefect. First they were very helpful in getting settled the first day, and the apartment had everything that I needed. The neighborhood was great everything you would need restaurants parks shopping all less than 1/2 block away. Also the transportation both tram and metro very close. I would definitely stay with them again, great stay
This is a spacious apartment, which was spotlessly clean. Comfortable beds, cooking facilities and even a small balcony, as well as chairs and a table to have breakfast if the weather is too cold for the balcony.
The location was perfect for our needs. There are a range of bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk as well as bakeries for morning croissants etc right on the doorstep. We found a little enclave on a canal which was 10 minutes walk away and had Thai, sushi etc restaurants (along Hogeweg, turn left at roundabout and go across the bridge). There is also a very handy supermarket just round the corner. Access to central Amsterdam is easy on the tram that stops outside (frequent service and only takes about 20 minutes, although it's also walkable.)
Ravir was there to welcome us, and was very friendly and helpful, giving us advice for our stay. He also responded very promptly to a couple of email queries we had prior to our visit.
When we stayed there was no TV in the room but this did not inconvenience us at all. There are two apartments at the same address, and the Trip Advisor photos seem to be mainly of the apartment which looks out to the street. We were in the other one which features in photos 31, 32, 38 and 45.
There is a steep staircase to the apartments and that won't suit everyone but it was fine for us, especially since Ravir zipped upstairs with our bags on arrival! When you arrive, go in as if you're going into New Fysic - the entrance to the apartments are ahead of you (beyond the glass door into New Fysic).
All in all, great apartment, fantastic location and very welcoming hosts. We would thoroughly recommend it.

You’ve heard about the three factors which determine desirability in real estate: 1. Location, 2. Location and 3. Location. The same could be said for holiday lets.
Upper Amsterdam East is ideal for location: the Nr 9 tram stops around the corner, and fifteen minutes later you are in the the busy, beautiful, noisy, colourful, crazy historic center of Amsterdam. Within a one minute walk from the flat, there’s a wonderful bakery/cafe, a liquor store, a confectionery, and a butcher shop. Walk five minutes, and there’s a supermarket which is open late every day, and in the other direction, a pharmacy. One of the best fishmongers in Amsterdam is across the intersection. Hema and Albert Heijn are a ten minute walk away, in a large shopping precinct. Across the main road there's a lovely park, and there you will find de Kas, one of Amsterdam's highest rated restaurants. What more could you want?
Well, you could want a holiday flat that’s tasteful, bright, clean and comfortable. You might hope for a helpful, friendly and good humoured landlord. Quiet at night might be one of your asks. Score, score, score! Upper Amsterdam East wins! We loved our week there: knowing Amsterdam as well as I do, this rental leapt off the screen for me because of its location, and then more than met our expectations.
All of that said, there are a few things that you should know about Upper Amsterdam East before you hand over your deposit. First, the flat is one flight of stairs up from street level. No problem, you say? Well, the stairs are the true, typical, old-fashioned Amsterdam type: extremely steep and curved. This is probably not the place for the elderly, the handicapped or the very young. On the other hand, climbing those stairs is a very authentic historic Amsterdam experience. Cooking facilities are limited: there’s a fridge, an electric kettle and a two burner cooktop (hob). There are, however, plenty of glasses, plates and cutlery. A microwave would have been really welcome for warming the excellent assortment of heat-and-eat foods to be found in the local shops. On the other hand, you might be perfectly happy to have an excuse not to cook, so that you'd have to visit the excellent variety of cafes and restaurants in the neighbourhood instead.
Amsterdammers are known for their sense of humour, and their friendliness. The landlords, Ravir and Peter, certainly live up to the Mokum stereotype, and they made our holiday particularly memorable. During our stay over Easter weekend, long story short, there was a technical problem. The issue was not only resolved to our satisfaction, but in a way that left us grinning with wonderful memories. Just ask Ravir, and maybe he will tell you about it. On the other hand, he might not want to be reminded. LOL In any case, the minor problem (as well as the solution) ended up being a memorable highlight rather than a disappointment.
This is a very special holiday let in many ways, but it may not suit everyone’s needs. For us though, choosing Upper Amsterdam East was the thing that made a good holiday in a wonderful city, a great experience. We can't wait to go back.
We booked via TripAdvisor very easy and straightforward. Tram from Central Station takes about 15 mins and drops you practically at the door. Ravir was waiting for us, explained everything and was available by text at any time. Flat is perfect for a few days exploring Amsterdam.
