B&B Guide is a fantastic place to stay in Amsterdam. An excellent alternative to a hotel, both apartments are spacious; ours was with the added bonus of a private garden, which was a great luxury. Immaculately clean. Very comfortable bed. Dennis and Martine are lovely people. A boat trip with a history lesson was an unexpected pleasure included in the price of the room. If you’ve never been to Amsterdam this is the place to book. We hope to be back.

My husband and I just returned from 3 days at the Bed & Guide. We had a delightful stay mainly due to the warm hospitality we received from Dennis & Martine. The best way to describe our experience was that from the moment we reserved our room it felt as if we were going to Amsterdam to visit close friends. We received several e-mails prior to our trip with helpful information about navigating the city (where to park, which train to take, etc.). When we arrived we found Dennis waiting to greet us at the front door. That evening Dennis gave recommendations for dinner and tips for navigating the city. The next morning he took us on a private 2 hour boat tour of Amsterdam (see pictures). It was such an enjoyable way to experience the city - traveling with a local vs. a crowded tour boat. The apartment was clean and comfortable with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Once again it felt as if we were visiting friends that were right next door if we needed anything. The location was ideal on a quaint street with lots of little shops and restaurants.

We had the pleasure of staying at this amazing B&B. From the time of our early arrival in which Dennis & Martine let us leave our bags until our time to leave, when incidentally Martine even got up early to say bye we had a most enjoyable stay. There was nothing we could say negative about this place. We stayed in the larger of the two apartments and it was like being in you're own home, in fact we could live in a place like this. Dennis took us on his boat on a very informative tour of the canal's, and drinks at his cafe/bar we enjoyed his company so much the time went by too quickly. We have recommended this place to our friends and cannot wait to visit again.

My husband and I just returned from a 7 day stay at the Bed & Guide. We were in the Suite. The smaller of the two apartments. Although there is only a small kitchenette (with hotplate type stove) the garden more than makes up for it. Dennis and Martine are wonderful hosts. I asked a lot of questions during our walkabout tour ( the boat was unavailable to us). Dennis happily answered everyone. It did get a little warm while we were there but the bedroom is down stairs below ground level so it stayed nice a cool for a good nights sleep. The WC and shower are very modern. The refrigerator was well stocked with good food. Martine delivered fresh bread every morning. She even brought over our bread wrapped to go on the morning we left early for a day trip to Belgium. The apartment had only been in use for a couple of months while we were there so they were still working out some issues. However, this was never a problem. They had bikes for our use at no additional charge. The apartment has a private entrance with your own key. No curfew. Dennis and Martine are right next door should you need anything. We changed our travel plans at the last moment and when they couldn't let us stay due to being booked Martine went online and found us a place to stay. She contacted the owners of another B&B and made the reservation for us. Dennis even drove us to the new place! This other B&B (which I will review separately) was not even close to the level of the Bed & Guide. Dennis and Martine speak several languages so no worries if you speak English,Spanish or even German! Try to go to Dennis and Martine's pub Nel while you are there. Monday is Jazz night with great live music.

Room Tip: There is a grocery store and tram line at end of the street.

We stayed for five fantastic nights in this beautifully renovated, immaculate 18th century house in the historic center of Amsterdam and hated to leave. Though advertised as an apartment, you are actually getting a house: airy open plan living/dining/kitchen main floor with huge windows looking out in front onto a quiet, charming street of 18th century houses and a lush garden in the back, and a cozy master bedroom, dressing room and bath on the upstairs floor. Compact, efficient and supremely comfortable, this historic register Dutch home has been beautifully designed to cater to all your needs and wants. The bedroom is charming, with a beamed ceiling, original artwork and a bed so comfortable I wished we could take it home with us. The kitchen is stylishly contemporary and complete: fridge, 4-burner stove, dishwasher, plenty of counter space and beautiful cookery and tableware – stocked by Martine with delicious, plentiful breakfast food, including fresh artisanal bread every morning. But though comfort matters, what delights most about this place is the care with which the art and objects have been chosen. Original serious wall art, a classic Dutch design sofa, contemporary lamps all mixed with lovely antiques make it a uniquely beckoning space.

But all this is without mentioning our exceptionally hospitable hosts. Martine and Dennis are smart, personable, interesting people who are happy to help you find your way around, answer questions and share as much information about Amsterdam as you might want, and, tactfully, no more. Dennis provides a memorable, individualized canal tour in his own boat so enviable that tourists along the way were calling out asking for his price – but actually it’s priceless, you realize, as passengers in the many large tour boats gaze at you wistfully. With Amsterdam ancestors going back generations, Dennis knows the local history, and the locals know him, calling out greetings as we passed, illustrating the village-like character of this cheerful, cosmopolitan city. Amsterdam is an exciting, friendly, fascinating city, and in Bed & Guide we found ourselves uniquely situated to briefly enjoy feeling at home in it. This is a very long review, I know, but that’s because in a long lifetime of travel, Bed & Guide is one of the most fantastic places I’ve ever stayed. Amazing value. As I write this, even though I love my home in Manhattan, I just can’t help but wish I were still there. Thank you, Martine and Dennis!
