Two couples trolling the streets for a place to sit in and have a nice meal for our last night together in Amsterdam. We just happened to walk by when Dwars was opening and decided to stay and order. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was exceptional! The location was nice on a less busy street. We could see slightly into the kitchen and were impressed with the care and freshness of everything prepared. Even herbs grown on site in large flower pots! The prices were not over inflated. Selection of Dutch beers recommended to go with each course was also a welcome surprise.
Thank you for a wonderful evening!

This is a lovely neighbourhood place on one of the main streets in the Jordaan. The service stuff are very friendly, and competent. The prawn bisque is very flavourful, also good veg salad (although it costs $10). A fair bit of outdoor seating. Small menu, but some decent variety, also decent wines by the glass. Good value.

We made a late reservation on a Saturday for a group and showed up with 1 person and 1 child extra. The owner made some changes while we waited and there was no problem at all which was very nice!
We chose the 3 course tasting menu, complemented with the beer tasting which was fantastic. I thought it was a great idea as an alternative to a wine pairing (which is also available) and it really worked well, even with the deserts!

The food was very good, the starter and desert consisted of multiple small portions and the main was 2 types of meat and fantastic vegetables.

We had a great time and everyone loved the food even though we were a very diverse group with people from the US, UK, Japan and Europe.

With the amount of detail on the preparation of the food it does take a bit longer to come out of the (tiny) kitchen so make sure you're not in a rush when you go here and just enjoy the great food and atmosphere.

Highly recommended!

We were pleased to find a local restaurant with charming staff on our last night in Amsterdam. Sadly the much vaunted, locally sourced, ingredients were completely ruined in the kitchen. This was institutional cooking the like of which I have never seen in a restaurant! What we were hoping for was good home-cooked food, as promised on the menu.

Instead, the starters of shrimp croquettes were hard as shell casings and probably straight from the freezer, button mushrooms in a thin sauce were served in a bowl on salad leaves – really? What about a nice piece of toasted home-made bread? Main courses were no better. Slices of grey pork were concealed under thick gravy as was the very dry rabbit casserole - both were served with undercooked roasted potatoes and a tasteless melange of steamed vegetables.

We were so disappointed – the only part of our meal that was any good was the small amuse-bouche of smoked trout which, I assume, came from a packet. Another cook in the kitchen would help as the wait between courses was very long.

We thought it was only fair to point out the shortcomings of the meal to the chef and he was gracious enough to remove the cost of our main courses from the final bill but my advice to him is to rethink his menu and PRACTICE his dishes.
