It was a very long day and I had just returned from a day trip to Belgium, when a friend of mine suggested that we meet at The Butcher. The address of the place is enough to excite any visitor or local, because the Albert Cuypstraat is famous for the outdoor market and ethnic food outlets in its vicinity. Nevertheless, I never heard of this place, so I said why not...The place is early 1900 butcher shop a la 21st century steel and fit-outs, so very intriguing....the menu was amazingly rich in choice of burgers, Lamb, Beef, Chicken and Veggie with a fish and chips option for that non-red meat or vegetarian person...and simple straight forward side dishes. I actually had two burgers and both were great.
Only downside was the music playing in the background was a bit too "specific taste" and disrupts the food experience.
I inquired from my friend after dinner, where are we going next? My friend smiled and said we are going behind the Iron Wall; I was on the list as her guest.
I literally was dumbfounded when I discovered that behind this burger joint lay the coolest little lounge and bar in town...the crowd was very eclectic, friendly and happy, but the real highlight was the great music that went well with the excellent cocktails being served by the "Fabulous Shaker Boys"…probably two of the most charismatic and talented mixologists in town; "old school meets new school" bartending with a lot of content, not just show
The burger place is a must, but the bar is a triple must…so find a way to get on the list
