Description: Thijs by Dikker & Thijs is where modern city life meets tradition in a 18th century warehouse on the Pinsengracht canal. Thijs offers a French kitchen and prefers to work with seasonal products, pure and honest ingredients. The crew is highly qualified when it comes to pampering you. Thijs has style and standing and offers at the same time a unique modern atmosphere. On the first floor we have a hotel lounge and Private Dining Room for lunch or diner, with a beautiful canal view. This room can also be hired for meetings or presentations.

We thought that the service was under manned so that we had to
negotiate each encounter. The welcome wasn't warm or attentive which didn't set the scene for an enjoyable evening. We had to ask for nibbles to go with our rather measly glassof champagne and the rest of the meal was comic in it's hastily constructed ingredients - hot soft-shelled crab and cold crab pate followed by lamb and bits
Altogether a rather second class experience.

We had a 3 course menu plus wine arrangements. When we arrived we asked if they had a house aperitif and the hostess seemed a bit confused and offered us a glass of house white or red wine. I told her normally the house aperitif was champagne or sparkling wine in some form and did they have champagne. Of course they had champagne so we ordered it and she was again confused and brought only 1 glass. After the server took over from the hostess all went very smoothly! The food as well as the accompanying wines were delicious and as we wanted a pre-theatre menu we were out in plenty of time for the performance at the Stadsschouwburg.
One thing about the decor I did not like was no table clothes, hence the average mark for decor.
And there was also a problem with the check - it contained things we did not order but all was pleasantly resolved. Dinner for 2 people - 3 courses plus wine arrangements - was €133.

All staff from breakfast to dinner gave excellent service, friendly and accommodating, especially Benjamin the Chef, having food allergies he provided the appropraite menu for me every evening which was much appreciated. Good value for money, a large selection of wines at reasonable cost and many thanks to Benjamin and all the staff.

typical Dutch breakfast offering. It could use more selection but all was good. Atmosphere was nice and service good.

We spent several nights in Amsterdam on this trip, and this was our second favorite meal of the visit. We loved the cheese platter, steak, and delicious dessert. Only a few points were knocked off due to the waitress. She started off on a bad foot by pouring us half glasses of champagne (the locals at the table next to us got heavy pours and the rest of the bottle) and was fairly rude throughout the evening. However, the food made up for this, and we truly enjoyed our meal.
