“Perfect find on a Winter day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

Visited for lunch on a cold, rainy, windy Amsterdam afternoon and definatley hit the spot! Gorgeous pies jam packed with filling with mash and gravy! Yum! Between the 4 of us we sampled the chicken of arrogan and free ranger pies, both as delicious as each other

Just a 5 minute walk off Dam square for a break from the generic tourist fast food and a real taste of home!

The best thing about it is I discovered there's one in Manchester so plenty of time to sample the rest of the menu!

“scrummy pies”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

Whilst walking around the Red Light district of Amsterdam and venturing beyond looking for somewhere to eat but not wanting the usual pizza or pasta we came upon this gem. After reading the menu in the window we were smitten. The inside of the shop was a little stark but hey, we were up for anything. We were really surprised. The pies were absolutely delicious - mine was the heidi pie - goats cheese, sweet potato, spinach and red onion and my dear hubby ordered the shamrock pie with really good tasting beef in a rich gravy. The service was prompt, the lager cold and the food hot. We were disappointed that we were too late to taste the puds as they had all been sold.

“Minty Mushy Peas!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013 via mobile

Mushy peas are not a big thing in the US... But I love them. This place had great savory pies and lots of sides. The piccalilli sauce was good but the peas were great. If you need a quick bite and don't want to go to another cafe then try Pieminister. The staff was great and chatted us up. It's always nice to have friendly people when you are a tourist and don't know the restaurant process.

“Pie-tastic place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

Whilst visiting Amsterdam on a cold Saturday morn and feeling hungry we stumbled across Piminister Pie and Mash shop and went into investigate what was on offer.

All four of us read the menus and were spoilt for choice as regards to the many pies on offer.
We decided to choose four different ones and chose the meal deal called The mothership as our combination of all the options on offer.

The mother ship consists of the pie of your choice, mash potato, minty mushy peas, grated cheese, crispy shallots and gravy for €12 each.
The four pies chosen were .. The shamrock pie, British beef steak in a rich gravy with Guinness ... The moo pie, British beef steak, cracked black pepper and real ale ... The Heidi pie, Somerset goats cheese, sweet potato, spinach and red onion and The Kate and Sidney, British beef steak and kidneys.
I had the Kate and Sidney which; like the other three pies; were delicious and the whole meals were substantial and very flavoursome and all meals were presented on an enamel white plate which we all found to be a nice quirky touch.
A selection of hot, cold and alcoholic drinks are available to accompany you meal along with cakes too.
I can count this as a must do place to eat if you fancy a good honest traditional British pie ( made in Bristol, from British farm assured meat, free range chicken etc) and we will be calling in again when we next visit Amsterdam.
The shop is located at Oude Hoogsstraat 29H and has a website www.pieminister.NL

“Perfect, light, comfort food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013 via mobile

We spotted this small cafe while exploring Amsterdam. We were hungry but didn't know exactly what we wanted. When we stumbled on the Pieminister, we immediately decided this would be the perfect meal. We were right. The pies were delicious and the soup was amazing. Great place. Pies average 6 euro and you can add some sides for around 2 euro. Coffees and sodas are around 2.50 euro. The cafe claims the pies are handmade in Bristol. They also offer free wi-fi.
