Afer spending 4 days in Amsterdam, this little cafe/bar was a breath of fresh air. Dark and cool. I loved the simple set up, even how the glasses we're displayed behind the bar. Impressed by how this bar/cafe got so much out of a small space, even the sliding toilet doors adding to the aesthetic.
It's easy to walk past but keep an eye out for cafe de spuyt. Happily sat at the bar until a table became free, the staff we're lovely and made us feel very welcome. Then theres the beer! Amazing selection of mainly local/dutch and belgian as well as french and a couple of american. Too much choice but reasonably priced (obvously the higher the % the more it is). The place was mainly visited by dutch and belgians so it didn't have the touristy feel most bars in the area suffer from. One of the barkeeps, who was enjoying a beverage after a tough shift, was happy to chat shop giving me some insight to the history of the place.
I believe they only serve snacks, so we ordered a plate of chorizo to chew on whilst drinking. I could be wrong though, so ask! They also sell cigerettes/cigars singularly behind the bar, which I liked. There's some tables and chairs outside to sit and watched the stoned brits stumbling past, white as a sheet, always fun.
Please visit this place! I was so happy to find it, just sat quietly in a back street enjoying its anonymity.
