Go here for great coffee/suggest Americans get cappuccino. We had a sandwich one day which was very fresh and yummy. The BEST deal is breakfast - For 11euro, you get OJ, an egg any style, 2 croissants, ham, cheese, and coffee/cappuccino. You wont be dissappointed.

I live just around the corner from Screaming Beans and have been anxious to have dinner there. We went last night for a tasting menu with wine accompaniment. You have the choice of 5 (75 euro), 6 (85 euro), or 7 (95 euro) dishes (2 of which are dessert), and a small glass of wine is served with each main dish and once for dessert. We arrived hungry in eager anticipation of the tasting menu. For the extravagant price we expected something amazing.

Each large plate had a very small, well presented piece of food in the center. Seriously, you pretty much just get a taste. We choose the 6 course option just to make sure we didn't stuff ourselves, but we left terribly hungry. Especially since they pace the meal at about 15-20 minutes between each very small portion, you have a lot of time to think about how hungry you are. No bread is served, and no "chef apertif" type thing to enhance the experience. We ran home and had a snack before bed. I would say they try too hard to price and present themselves like a Michelin quality place, but they fall terrible short on the experience. We have never before walked away feeling like we WASTED so much money. It was a vast disappointment.

The wine was very good and well selected though, and the coffee clearly was of high quality. I would go again for a glass of wine or cup of coffee, but I would make reservations for a nice meal elsewhere. There are many in the area - Peper and Zout for example has outstanding food.

Dutch coffee is normally bad tasting half liter of brown liquid but in this place they really know what is coffee. And amazing but true in Screaming Beans you can get "cortado" or even "ristretto"...

Screaming Beans is perfect for a quick mid-shopping pick me up or catch up with friends. We visited on a rainy Sunday afternoon and the cafe was busy but not too hectic. None of us ate but the coffee was divine and the staff were friendly. Will be back for more.

Got off the plane from SFO and decided to take a morning side trip to Amsterdam. Went looking for Chocolatl, for a chocolate fix, but it's closed Sunday...and passed by Screaming Beans. It's a small boutique coffeebar--- got a pour over which was smooth and delicious, and apple flip, which is an apple turnover with a nice crucnchy sugar crust, and a goat cheese salad which had apples, walnuts and ample goat cheese and mesclun greens, and a slightly sweet dressing. Actually works as a breakfast. The people who work there are young and seem quite passionate about the beans, explaining to me (in English) and neighboring table ( in Dutch) about the pour over and the beans ( though i promptly forgot what type of bean, it was smooyh and did get more complex and a bit chocolatey as it cooled). Sat outside and enjoyed folks walking along the street and sitting outside. Just what I was looking for.
