“very good”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

our main form of transport was walking, we had seen alot of amsterdam by getting lost on our way to each attraction.and spent hours walking around taking in the different places, we were all a bit apprehensive about getting on a canal boat but it was very easy to get on and off and very smooth. we were 20 euros for a 24 hour pass which meant we could get on and off as much as we wanted. we had planned to go on the cocktail cruise at nighttime but they sell out very quickly so book early to avoid disappointment. we ended up going on a very different walking tour, the pubcrawl tour, drink til you drop is the slogan. 5 pubs, 5 free shots, and vodka being poured down your throat before entry. dam square is very expensive for drinks(21 euro for 3 drinks) and in one pub 24 euro for 4 shots, so dont buy any until you are closer to the red light district. the tour takes you on a quick walk through the red light district, tour guides dont hang around for you, if you drop you drop. very good and worth the money 17euros.

“Museum Cruise - ok”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

Eight years ago we took the Lovers 60 minute tour. We really enjoyed it. This time we thought we'd try something different and took the longer, museum canal tour. I definitely recommend the shorter tour,. The longer tour goes on the outer, larger canal. Althought the captain was entertaining, we just didn't see as much variety as previously. The shorter tour was much more interesting and went through the smaller canals.

The canal boats can be hired in front of the Amterdam Centraal train station.

“A complement to walking tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

If Amsterdam's unusual city plan confuses you, take a canal cruise first, then take a bus tour and then, once you have seen the various districts, do your walking exploration.

The canal boat cruise is safe, comfortable and interesting, but not really comprehensive for the many sections and communities within the city You can, however, gain an appreciation for the incredible design work that went into laying out this 17th century masterpiece.

The night time dinner tours are romantic and pricey, but you can arrange for any level of sophistication you want, even getting top level cuisine from the major star restaurants and having the entire boat to yourself, if you wish.

Most tours start from the area near the Central Station and Damrak, although there are other departure locations. As a boater for many years, I enjoy sitting up front near the pilot where one gains an appreciation for the skill needed to navigate some of the tight turns in the canals.

Highly recommended and without the usual tourist-trappings.
You must buy tickets for these tours and they are not included on the other transportation passes for bus, trams or trains.
A fair price for what is offered.

“Good to get your bearings.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2012 via mobile

Great way to get your bearings before you set off around Amsterdam. Sitting on the right hand side seems to be the best. There are other trips but this was 1 hour and was just right anything more would be a bit boring.
