Always on visiting Amsterdam make sure of a visit to this market as it has many many goods on offer from food to clothing/etc. But oh dear on a very wet and windy Saturday recently having walked from Dam Sq found to our disappointed that due to inclement weather there was hardly anyone selling goods. Can understand it wasn't the best of days but disappointing nonetheless. However on any other day with good weather a visit is definitely recommended.
I love this market and we always go back here.
It's very authentic and a great place to buy the local produce. For me the ideal trip through this market is about the food, so I would recommend getting a taste of the herring, some fries, and of course try the stroop-waffle made fresh and the puffegies for a delicious local experience.
And of course, don't forget to buy plenty of local amazing cheese!
This street is full with sellers of all kinds of souvenirs and treats, from fruit to fashion. Snacks also along the way and each end is by a tram stop so easy to get to
This is a nice place to visit and enjoy some local food when you are in Amsterdam. Here you can find local favorites like raw dutch herring paired with raw onion & pickles, if you think you can eat Japanese sashimi (raw Japanese seafood)...trust me, this is on a total different level. The dutch loved it, for me i felt like throwing up while eating =.=, for once in my whole life...pickles were my best friend and I did finish it in the end. I downed a cup of fresh juice available there and next tried kibbeling, a type of deep-fried cod. This tasted exceptionally good (i guess probably because of the herring). Among other food, you can also find roasted poultry, and a couple of stalls selling loempia (fried spring rolls with meat, similar to Filipino Shanghai lumpias or Vietnamese Cha Gio). You can find some nice affordable local dutch cheese here, very tasty and decently priced. I would come back again if I am in Amsterdam again, but no more herring...
As this has been the market everyone has said to visit, I was excited as I love a good market. However, I wasn't overly impressed with it. At first I really enjoyed it, a few nice clothes shops, accessories and food stands but as we kept walking I noticed that all the stalls are pretty much exactly the same. It was nice to wander round for an afternoon and did buy a few souvenirs but wouldn't come back.
