My disappointment learning that the Van Gogh museum was closed for renovations was somewhat assuaged by the fact that l'Hermitage had a Van Gogh exhibit. This was thematic, not chronological, with a limited number of paintings. Still, for one who has studied Van Gogh it was a positive experience and an enormous treat to be able to get close up to see the paint strokes and examine detail.

Despite taking in too many visitors the Hermitage holds an impressive rotating collection of art, artifacts and other items. I was lucky to visit the Van Gogh exhibition. The layout was perfect.
Some things to consider: Avoid weekends when it is crowded. Limited amount of bathrooms for amount of visitors. It gets really smelly and dirty.
The shop is extremely expensive. Prices of souvenirs should definately be revised. The same items can be found at the Bloemen Markt and Waterloo Plein for half the price. And yes it is the same quality.

We visited the museum in the early hours. It opens at 9. Van Gogh exhibition was great. Large groups were on the queue when we were finished so better visit early.

The Van Gogh exhibition was just great, I really appreciated the display of the works of art and totally recommend the place!
The only disappointment was the closing time: it shuts down at 5 p.m.

The Van Gogh museum was closed for renovation and had been shifted to Hermitage. Nice lay out, paintings well displayed, useful audio guide. More crowd in the store than in the exhibit hall.
