“all about location”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

LLocation is excellent, roght in the midle of everything - centre, nightlife, red lighf district, close to main station, metro and tram starions, bike rental is just aroun a corner. Shared toilets amd showers are clean, but carpets on corodors and stairwas needs to be cleaned or changed. Room is big enough and clean, we missed night tables - there was no place to put aside watches, jewelery atc.

Only meant for single travellers , this property is located at the red light district area of Amsterdam .During daytime it's a boring place but the moment sunsets it's a Mecca for red lighters....only for single travellers ....enjoy

We decided to come to Amsterdam very spontaneously, and booked one night in advance. We were totally happy to find an affordable room for three people at Hotel Torenzicht.
The rooms are simple, but clean and you share bathroom and shower with the other guests on your floor. You do certainly not get a luxury room with television and dark velvet curtains, but what for anyway? You´re in Amsterdam, there are plenty of things to do, and Hotel Torenzicht is perfectly located for whatever you intend to do in Amsterdam. Plus: it´s awesome to have a bar downstairs, isn´t it? ;-)
The staff is very friendly and you get a satisfying breakfast. So, thank you for making out time in Amsterdam a great time!

So your off to taste the delights of Amsterdam, probably the most laid back city in the world, wether thats down to the tolerent attitute of the government towards certain herbal products and semi naked ladies in windows or the locals aproach to life and the bigger picture i dont know but, laid back it is. I did the usual and went with a few friends for a 2 night stay to sample the not so cheap beer and the experience that is window shopping while trying to fit in a little culture where time permitted. The Torenzicht hotel is right bang in the middle of the red light district on a canal side opposite a sex show and a few red windows, the view from the bar is canal then semi naked girls, the view from the hotel room is more direct, simply semi naked girls, and that always helps when dealing with a hangover. The hotel itself, well its the heart of Dam so you have to be prepaired for the opposite of the Hilton, remember these canalside buildings havent changed for hundreds of years so their modern use has to be crammed into existing areas but for me that kinda makes them all the more real. You collect your key cards at the bar, one per person and on you go up the steepest steps ever, rooms are clean but basic, a few single beds, a sink, a mini fridge and somewhere for your clothes, toilets and showers are shared on each landing but again are very clean and in individual rooms (1 person 1 shower etc) downstairs you have the bar thats open 24 hours a day, large tv showing sports, plenty of seating area and its a really nice quiet bar to have a few drinks before heading out, downstairs again you'll find the dining area which my hangover only allowed me to try once but the brekfast wasnt bad, not Premier Inn standard but a fair stab at an english fry up, toast and jams and added local food like ham and cheese. The barman/doorman/owner, not sure what role he had but he was there no matter what time of day or night and he was a blast, typically dutch friendly with plenty of banter, funny stories and super helpful. I think we had to be out of the room for 11am and the coach wasn't until 5pm so just leave your bags behind the bar and enjoy the day without carrying everything around. I wont bother going into the sights and sounds, places to eat and drink etc (although do try some pancakes when you find them and the quick service pizza shops are cool for a large slice of pizza on your way back from a night out) even if your there for just a day its so easy to find your way around and get your bearings even with all the alleyways and canals and if you do manage to get lost just go with the flow, chill out and enjoy the window shopping. I rated the hotel avarage because it is, but i'd stay there again and if your visiting Amsterdam for a laugh with the guys/girls then you couldnt get better for location.

Room Tip: try to get a room as near to ground level as you can, the stairs are super steep.

I stayed for 5 nights with a friend. The hotel is a no frills budget hotel in the middle of the Red Light District. Niels the Barman is a top guy who is always happy and cheerful, the breakfast is plenty full, would definitely stay here again and go dipping around the Red Light, you haven't been to amsterdam until you have dipped!!

Stayed here with friends for a stag do in April.
We were struggling a bit to find a place for 6 of us to stay for the kind of money everyone could afford. Toreznicht was fine for everyone's pocket.

It's in the heart of the Red Light district, so it was fine for a stag do, but perhaps not so great if you're on a couples romantic weekend away.

We were given 2 rooms, one of these had 4 beds and was on the very top floor. BE WARNED, it's quite a trek up (and down) those stairs, especially if you've been sampling things from certain famous Amsterdam shops. They're very steep and very narrow.

The bar and the staff are great. Niils checked us in and kept us laughing with his experiences whenever we were in the bar. Also managed to find us the Stoke match for the big screens. Top man. Free wi-fi too.

Great value for money if you're on a lads trip. Recommend it.

Room Tip: Try not to get the top floor rooms. Although you can't be too picky for the price you pay.
