A fantastic greeting awaited us as we arrived -the 'craaazy Dutch' stereotype in full effect here. The room itself was nothing special but for three guys sharing and on a budget, it had everything we needed.

Sure, the view wasn't amazing, the decor was minimal and the walls weren't exactly soundproof but it was clean, the water was hot, the sheets were fresh and the heating worked. Fresh towels were provided daily and we never felt there was anything to complain about.

The breakfast was fine-a full English or continental option available and great staff (all of whom speak perfect English) were always on hand.

Live music was provided over the weekend we stayed there and each time we returned back to the hotel, the bar area, with its laid-back, friendly feel always seemed to be busy but not overcrowded.

The location is in the Red Light District but don't get the wrong impression, you'll find no one touting for business outside the front door. Most of the Red Light District is simply full of bars and restaurants and coffee shops, the occasional shop offering novelty sex toys and an adult cinema is about as spicy as it gets on the street where the hotel is situated. However, for those wanting to experience the open nature of this adult playground, you're just a couple of streets away. This is also a great location for a quick stay due to it being just a five minute walk from the train station.

Would i return? If i was either on a budget or in the company of just blokes who perhaps aren't too bothered by frills, then yes -absolutely! Perhaps if returning to the city for a romantic break, I might look for something a little more 'boutique' and pay for the extra star rating.

Hotel Old Quarter has a playful and vibrant energy to it. It knows who it is marketing towards and doesn't attempt to hide the fact. I liked this honesty and would certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: I believe the rooms north facing have a canal view. Probably worth a phone call if that's import...

I have recently returned after staying at the Old Quater for 3 nights. After reading most of the reviews, we were worried about the quality of the hotel and i can honestly say its not as bad as you read.
On arrival, the hotel recpetionist was lovely (even gave me a free jager shot as it was my birthday). She told us information on the area and advised that reception was 24 hours.
Our room was based on three people sharing based on the first floor, it was a decent size and the beds were comfy. The only down side was, is that there was no bathroom in the room. We had to use the shared toilet and shower which we had not been advised before. However we had no problems using these facilities and both were kept clean.
The hotel is in the perfect location, located on a busy street, with plenty of shops, resturants and coffee shops. The red light district is also a road away from the hotel.

Unless your paying for luxury, please do not expect it! The hotel is everything you pay for ( if not better!) Spot on location!
