“We Loved This Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

We stayed 3 nights at the Synopsis and concluded that this has to be one of the best bargains in Europe. The room we stayed in (#2) was equal to, if not better than, most bedrooms in a regular house. It was spacious, modern, decorated impeccably (Martha Stewart quality). The bath had accessories and amenities we have never seen in our travels. Add to that a very compact kitchenette tactfully hidden in a recess behind a door, bathrobes, slippers and not only a tv but a separtate stereo system for your music, we could hardly believe this was a 3 star hotel. The breakfast (included) was over the top. You order each night from a menu that has about anything you could want including items cooked to your specifications (eggs, for example). It is located on one of the prettiest canals in Amsterdam in the historic center. The owner is a delightful person who takes every effort to make you feel like you are a guest in her home, including a lot of information about things to do and places to eat in the city. Book ahead as there are only four rooms.

Room Tip: We stayed in room number 2 which is the largest and the one on which our review is based.

My fiancee and I spend the weekend here and we were SO happy from the minute we walked it!

A gorgeously presented home (really is a home!) awaited us with a magical little garden in the back (where we had a fantastic breakfast!)

Elizabeth (the owner/manager) was charming, attentive and really made us feel at home.

The rooms were perfect, comfy bed, very nicely done bathroom (with HUGE walk in shower).

I cant speak highly enough of this place! The location is perfect, right on Amstel river.

Every detail was well thought of (from the in room PC, good wireless coverage throughout the hotel)

Dont hesitate, go check this place out!

Room Tip: With only THREE rooms, we had the best! First floor, overlooking the garden with a patio where we co...

Stayed in hotel for 4 nights over last weekend. What a charming hotel. It is central and within easy walking distance to a lot of sights, but at the same time it is situated in a quiet area, good for evening time. The breakfast was lovely, a good varied choice. The room was very clean, well equipped with a TV, computer and had a small kitchenette including fridge, kettle, tea/coffee etc, a nice bathroom could not fault it. Elisabeth was friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, very knowledgable for the local area, & highlighted different sights/attractions to see. Would not hesitate in going back.

Really comfortable room, very helpful accomodating proprietor & staff. Great breakfast! Just around the corner from the Hermitage Museum where you can catch the Canal Bus - a 48 hr ticket to jump on & off of this is a great way to see & get around the city. Couldn't ask for a better base for a city stay.

Room Tip: We didn't look at other rooms so can't advise on those but the Courtyard Room was lovely. A...

We stayed here last weekend and found the accommodation and proprietor to be very comfortable and welcoming. The courtyard room was clean and modern, with a large bath tub allowing a long soak! Everything was provided as per a hotel stay but with more of a b&b feel.
Elizabeth was welcoming without being intrusive, we would recommend Hotel Synopsis to anybody.
Location is also very good, you are just away from the bustle but close enough to enjoy all the city. We hired bikes independently but a previous reviewer states Elizabeth also has some for hire. This is by far the best way to explore the city.
Dank u wel.

Synopsis Hotel is in the heart of Amsterdam, and 100 metres from the city tram. Elizabeth, the owner / manager is warm and welcoming without being intrusive. I stayed at this hotel 4 years ago in the courtyard room with my husband and this time I stayed in the garden room on my own. The garden room is located on the 1st floor and is accessible via a narrow, steep set of steps. If you are elderly, I would not recommend this room for you. Also, if you are travelling with heavy luggage, be prepared to lift it up the stairs. Once in the room, it is medium size, comfortable and has all the luxuries one needs for a comfortable stay. The bathroom is lovely and modern with a shower, toilet and basin. Just within the door forming part of the hallway is a small kitchenette. A lovely touch providing tea and coffee making facilities together with a small fridge stocked with drinks. Stepping in the main area of the room, you find a wardrobe, two chairs and a small desk with a desktop laptop for use for free. This was very convenient, allowing me to immediately make contact with my husband in Australia to let him know that I had arrived safely. The queen size bed is lovely and comfortable. The garden room has double doors that open out to an outdoor sitting area, which is also a nice touch. Breakfast is fantastic. Everything that a top 5 star hotel is on offer here. You have the choice of breakfast in your room or in the lovely garden. Since my last stay, Elizabeth has added bicycles to the list of things on offer. I hired one of the bikes for the day at Euro 10. The bikes are brand new and the price was very reasonable. This is definitely a fantastic addition. Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I would not hesitate to recommend Synopsis Hotel.

Stayed 1 night in the Garden Room ( accessed past the kitchen area by a short narrow steep staircase) - lots of nice touches -robes,slippers,chocs and biscs, mini bar and small kitchen area to make tea, coffee etc-plenty of coffee etc provided.
Enjoyed a complimentary glass of cava sitting on balcony area accessed from the room which overlooked the garden. this more than compensated for lack of bathtub in bathroom!(shower only) Room and bathroom spotlessly clean and well presented.
Owner Elizabeth very warm and helpful. We arrived early -just to leave bags-Elizabeth took time to provide map of area and show directions etc although was preparing rooms and it would have been inconvenient for her to spare the time.
Good idea to provide tick list of breakfast items available-each guest completes this on arrival to enable your breakfast to be just as you would like!-had breakfast in the kitchen-well presented and very good quality continental breakfast. Enjoyed the company of another couple and a chat with the owner during breakfast-felt like a welcomed guest in a home not a hotel.Pity weather not kind enough to allow breakfast in the garden which looked lovely.
This is so much better than a sterile chain hotel! -would highly recommend and would return again.
