The hotel is very centrally located, the staff are nice. Breakfast is continental but very nice in my opinion. The rooms are quite small but i was aware of this when I booked. The only issue and its not even an issue because I was also aware, is that we had a view of another building straight across, so if you want a view do not book. However i think the best view is when you are out and about anyway, you won't see much sitting in your hto

Good value for money compared to other hotels in Amsterdam, good continental breakfast, perfect location we walked all around the city from Dam Square, nice atmosphere, rooms are basic and maybe a little dated but nothing to complain about - the shower was brill and rooms are clean which for me are the main things! Ours wasn't too small, and you can smoke in the rooms if you choose too. Plus you get 10% discount if you eat in the restaurant downstairs! Couldn't fault it, would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: We stayed on the fourth floor and there was no night time noise from the streets below

I think rooms are too little. The crew is very kind, the location is very good because the hotel Doria is near dam plein and so we visited the city by foot. I will advice it to my friends. i hope to come back soon

Location is excellent for a tourists style city break. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the hotel is clean. Breakfast is standard continental European style and is of good quality. Wifi is free and there is a computer in the lobby

Things to consider before booking: The rooms are small and the bathrooms very small. If, like us you need nothing more than a clean room, comfortable bed and a bathroom then you'll be satisfied. if however you like spacious accommodation then this is probably not for you. Those who tend to shop in the XL section may have difficulties in the bathroom. The rooms have TV with 32 channels including CNN, BBC and Dutch, French, German mainstream channels. There are no radio stations. There is also no tea/coffee making facilities but don't let that put you off. If you like a cuppa in your room, as we do, pack a travel kettle.

Noise is the second thing to consider. At night the sound of throngs of people talking and enjoying the evening can be heard in the Damstraat facing rooms. Light sleepers who want an early night wont like it. On the other hand we loved the fact that we could get a beer or a glass of wine in the early evening, open the windows wide on our first floor room and watch the world go by, feeling like we were still in the heart of things before going out for the evening.

The third consideration is the smell in the corridors. The hotel first floor does have an odour of weed, which did not bother us at first but did start to slightly annoy as time went on. it wasn't in the room, just the corridor and I would tip the Hotel to put air fresheners in the corridors. It still wouldn't put me off rebooking.

I would advise the Doria to city breakers who want to be close to the tourism of the city and those who want to be handy to the nightlife and Red light district.

My tips if you do book are to avoid the pubs on Dam square like the plague. The majestic, Euro pub and the one next door to Doria all charge about €8 euro for a beer and €12 euro for a cocktail. This is very expensive in comparison to everywhere else. Literally across the road from the hotel is the Cafe de Dam. a great little pub charging about €4 for a beer. The hotel itself has a discounted restaurant that is also very reasonable. The food is fine.

Lastly. Don't buy an Iamsterdam card. If you are planning the tourist thing, plan in advance what you're going to see during your stay and buy the tickets all in one go at http://tickets.holland.com/ You will get the same or better discounts than at Iamsterdam. they will email the tickets to you instantly. Just email the link to reception and they will print them out for you. Then buy a travel pass for the duration of your stay the first time you board a tram. It will cost a fraction of the Iamsterdam card.
