As others have mentioned the location makes most attractions within easy walking distance. And yes, there are a couple of "red light" establishments on Singel; the alley behind the hotel was the original red light district in the 1600s. Our room, Van Gogh, was a mere 49 steps up from the reception and there is a small lift if needed. It is a corner room overlooking an alley with popular restaurants and though we were on huge 3rd floor, talking bounced off the walls up to our room. On the front side of the hotel is Singel Canal, a popular venue for party boats and cycle pubs, adding to the noise. Friday and Saturday nights are particularly busy so be prepared. We came equipped with earplugs and noise canceling headphones which helped.
Our breakfast was individually prepared when we arrived each morning; buttery croissants & rolls, soft boiled eggs, cheese, orange juice, coffee & tea.
The hotel had suggested Seasons and Il Paciccone, we ate at both and would highly recommend them. Very different dining experiences but both are worth a try.
