Great hotel in such a great location, in close walking distance to Amsterdam centre and main attractions. Stayed in a standard room on the fifth floor at front of hotel with a nice little balcony, perfect to watch the outside atmosphere and keep a check on the weather. Brucey bonus was the Endless Sunday thing they do...which means you don't have to check out till 5 pm on a Sunday! Which really suited us as flight home was in the evening, also easy to and from airport on the 197 bus, stop just round the corner! Yes the room is on the small side, but has all you need and bed is comfortable. Staff are helpful and friendly. We would happily return ;)

We Pricelined this one around a bike and barge in Nederland. My wife wanted a hotel near the Amsterdam Canals and the NH AMS Centre delivered. We got there easily on Amsterdam's excellent tram system. Check-in was decently fast and efficient. While the staff were not the overly friendly type you might find in the US, they were pleasant and efficient (and put up with our beginners Nederlands!).

While the elevator was a little tight compared to US standards it was still OK and took us to our 4th floor double. The room was a very decent size with decently firm twin beds and the (apparently traditional) NH wood floor. The room was spotless and had a desk and an easy chair and plenty of storage. We overlooked the center court which was the AC units and other rooms - but it made it quiet!

While we weren't there to watch TV, it was near the Boston Marathon bombing so the TV channels available allowed us to keep up with the news in English (and some Discovery channel shows dubbed in Nederlands!).

The internet was NH's Swisscom - free is slower and needs a code. For some reason my iPhone would not connect here, but the Kindle Fire did (always have a backup!)

Bottom line - very good deal for the price. Excellent quality room, cleanliness, and beds. Interesting location near touristy stuff one direction (the front) and real Amsterdam (go left out the front, then walk down the street.

The hotel has an excellent location... Close to museums, tram, grocery, vondel park, restaurants and bars. We stayed in the superior room which was large and on first floor facing the Marriott. We both are good sleepers and didn't hear any noise like some reviews commented on.
You can take a bus 197 from airport to a stop close to hotel... Bus/Tram stop at leidensplein , go across the canal and head for the Marriott and the hotel is beside it. The Marriott is much easier to see.
You can walk or take the tram to most locations around city. We bought a 72hr tram pass but walked most of the time (20 euro)

Cons: poor Internet like most reviews have stated. I find this a very basic service in today's world and find it very disappointing not having this service . Making it difficult to research and plan our day. As well as communicate with family back in Canada
Our room was clean but the carpets in the halls were very worn .
Tip: if you go to museums just before they open the crowds are much shorter. We did not buy the multi passes and went for opening and got in with a very short wait. Those with pre bought tickets actually had longer lines... Think everyone is thinking faster entry so purchase online or multi pass but we didn't and it worked well got us!

The staff were friendly and helpful, but the rooms and bathrooms were small, specially the double rooms a bit crampy for two people. I did not like the shower over the bath as I like to bath and my husband to shower, so the one had to wait for the other. The cushions on the bed were square and not comfortable to sleep. It also needed some new carpets because it were not clean and a bit worn. We stayed for 4 days and had breakfast there, and that was ok. Overall just average and nothing special. Would try a different hotel next time as it was not good value for money either.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel because it is a bit noisy at the front facing the main road.

I stayed here for 2 nights on a stag weekend, great location as everything was within walking distance. Never had any meals in the hotel, so can comment. Great price considering the central location. We had a twin room which was very clean and modern. Would highly recommended for long or short durations.

Once you step outside the hotel there is a free bus that takes you to the hotel. It takes only a few minutes. Drops you off opposite the other side of the road so it's very good for getting back and forth to the airport.

We booked a double room which is small but fine the air con didnt seem to be working. When we left for some sightseeing and by the time we got back the air con was still non responsive. So we called the concierge and they upgraded us immediately. Within 30 mins we had a larger room which had working air con, and our luggages were also brought up. I cannot state how much we appreciated the service given. The staff are very welcoming and helpful.

The location is also central to town. If you cross the road you are only 5 mins away from centre of town and markets.

Room Tip: Note that you now pay a town tax when you stay for more than a day at Amsterdam and they will ask yo...

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel in April 2013.

Check-in was quick and efficient, the staff who checked us in were professional and pleasant and helped us with maps and information on getting around etc., which we found helpful.

The room was on the small side, but it was very clean. The décor is worn in places, which shows that this hotel is in need of renovation at some point soon, but overall this did not detract from the comfort of the room.

The bed was comfortable, and the shower was of a good standard. The curtains also did a good job of keeping out the light from outside, although if you are a light sleeper then you will want a room that does not face the street, because the windows don’t have the best level of noise insulation. The cooling system was, however, not very efficient – it seemed to do exactly the opposite of what we were trying to do with it, and when we wanted to cool the room at night we resorted, in the end, to just keeping the window wide open. At the height of summer I can imagine that this may be an annoyance, as Amsterdam gets pretty hot.

Location: the hotel was well-placed, on one of the tram lines with direct access to the Centraal rail station, so if you are flying into Schipol or arriving on the train, it is very easy to get to the hotel. The location is also great for access to the museums – the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh are right round the corner (the latter was closed for renovation when we were there, but we went to see the collection being shown at the Hermitage). A word of warning, however: when we left Amsterdam, the tram to the station was so jammed with people that it was a struggle to get onboard. So I suggest either taking a taxi or the airport bus if you absolutely need to be on time to the airport.

Overall, a comfortable, solid hotel in a good location within easy access to the sights, and I would use it again if were to come back to Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Get a room which does not face the street.
