Yet another canal of Amsterdam. There are plenty but this one os more central and so has more vibe, shops, cafes and restaurants to it. We had an enjoyable walk along here.

We were in Amsterdam for our third visit. This time we were there for a one day visit only.
Each of our previous two visits to this city had involved stays of a few days.
We had walked to the neighbourhood of Singel during each of those two previous visits.
This neighbourhood’s relatively peaceful, narrow streets and delightful canal had made it one of our favourite Amsterdam neighbourhoods.
This most recent short visit to the city saw us once again take an extended stroll through the area. It was very nice to once again see the traditional Amsterdam terrace houses lining both sides of the canal. We also managed to spot the floating cat shelter “De Poezenboot” for the first time.
One aspect of this neighbourhood which some tourists may find either surprising or confronting is that it is home to Amsterdam’s second “Red Light District”. Consequently you may spot “ladies of the night” in the windows of some of the narrow fronted houses located there.
However, putting that aspect aside, we again thoroughly enjoyed the quaintness and peacefulness of the neighbourhood. Well worth a visit!

Plenty of photo opportunities and lovely just to wander around and take in the atmosphere. Nice to sit and watch the world go by.

Singel is one of the many canals that make up the Amsterdam Canal Rings and one with many houseboats, some of which if sitting on dry land could easily be mistaken for actual houses. The whole area and the bridges over the Singel is very picturesque and well worth visiting.

Four friends, all female and all mature age, we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay on the Singel Canel in a houseboat. It was such a unique experience, so much better than staying in a Hotel where we would be in 2 twin rooms, and not all altogether. We were close to everything we needed, and Central Station was about 8 to 10min max walk. Our boat was actually a stationery old ship, not a flat bottomed house boat, so it had lots of character. It was fun being on the water with all the boat traffic passing by.
